Melting battery

Post by specter » Sat Mar 29, 2014 1:17 pm

I just put a freshly charged 9.6 1600 Meh battery into my new G3. Within 30 seconds I smelled burning. When I opened up the stock, smoke was coming out. Long story short, my battery is shot, and the connector is completely melted and I had to cut the wire going to the connector. My main question at this point is simply: what the hell just happened to my gun?

Do you have tamiya connectors? Sounds to me like the terminals shorted out.

It looked like a short to me as well. And yes, they were tamiya. The battery had been acting up before. It would only work at certain angles which tells me that the wires were loose inside the connector. A short honestly seems like the most likely situation.

Apparently the fet is fried. A friend took it apart and it was really bad. Everything was melted inside.

Necro:
Cleric had this problem twice, with some cheap MOSFETs he bought for one of his AEGs. The MOSFETs were designed with an inherent potential short point where two leads were extremely close and prone to arcing under duress. Once the arc happened it overheated and shorted the MOSFET closed, meaning the AEG kept firing without stopping.
