I could paint it to look like an old bakelite grip, but I don't really want to. One game in this wet, soggy fall weather will make a world of difference.

There are any number of AK pistol grips available. Bakelite, ABS, polycarb, wood, fiberglass, nylon, whatever. There are a LOT of real guns with grips that look just like the one on the rifle right now.

Still needs a few finishing touches (like getting rid of that silver nut, for example), but this is going pretty well so far!

that looks GREAT. I plan on picking up one of the cheap CYMA AK47-S models in the future and abusing it almost beyond recognition.

-Steel wool ALL of the high wear areas
-Fake rustify and atatch a mock bayonet
-Wrap a portion of the foregrip with wire to simulate it being split apart
-Ding up the folding stock lightly with a hammer
-Downgrade the spring to an acceptable 0 MED FPS
Did I forget anything?

You forgot the part where not babying the gun in the field will accomplish all of that anyway, and probably look less fake in the end.

Well, that would work to, with the exception of
Downgrading spring
Rusting bayonet with spray paint(aluminum doesn't rust a lot)
Fake split the foregrip(I've always though that was cool)

I suppose I will take advice from a much more experienced airsofter on everything other than the above listed.

For one thing, steel wool will scratch the metal. Most of the wear you see on AKs doesn't come from scratches so much as it comes from the cheap paint wearing down.

I guess a chinese airsoft gun would have comparable paint quality to a real steel, probably a good bit lower.
