Re: MilSim -vs- Airsoft

Post by 82dcustomer » Wed Feb 24, 2010 9:23 am

The title of this thread has been bothering me for a week or so now. To me it is not a versus thing. Milsim is Airsoft, Paintsoft is Airsoft, Real Mil is Airsoft. They are all just different variations of the same sport. But yes I do have my preference and I just believe it is evolution or greed. I am always wanting more and more out of my game.

fellas, I know this thread is old but ima throw this in..

The reason I started this was all the debate.. People saying all we do is paintsoft.. then I hear about milsim and real mil and all..

I wanted to know the difference.. well..

to me its ALL milsim.. I thought the word paintsoft was insulting..

well, since then I actually was able to experience, paintsoft.. which to me is airsoft guns in a paintball format, or a paintball game that uses airsoft guns instead..

Since playing in SC and NC, I can say I have NEVER witnessed a paintsoft game in these states..

To me, its not about gear, camo, mags etc.. but how the game is played..

Yeah go play at Golden Eagle or SS Airsoft, thats paintsoft to the 100%. 400 fps in a building? Wish they had MED there, I hardly ever get hit and I left bleeding in multiple areas. Same for me, I think Realmil is a bit more tactical though because you zip tie and what not but its all the same to me, minus paintsoft.
I've been to a few games

I agree 100%. Sure having the gear is great, but you can have a great sim game even with a highcap. Trigger control seems to be the biggest issue that I have noticed. At Vietnam this past weekend I shot through about 350 rounds the entire day. Trying to keep it to 3 round burst or semi if possible, simply because I don't like taking a lot of mags, or reloading a lot.

The point isn't trigger control.  If you were getting over run you would not keep it on semi and just shoot a couple bbs.  If the SHTF yuo would switch it to full auto and dump the whole mag defending your position.  It isn't anything bad, i would do the same thing given those tools.  With mid caps it MAKES you reload giving the attacker a couple seconds.

Really there is a big difference between all these game types. If you have not been in a realmil then I can see where it would be hard to judge the game play. There is the one common being the weapon. The big difference that I see is making the mission real. Putting the honor and respect in the mission. For a example the last realmil covered a area of 5 miles of playing field. In two days of hunting and shooting I never heard a player say "call your hit". We also did not have any FF. What we did have is troops that learned to stay on mission and put the mission first.
However that may not be the game type that you like. If that is the case you may like the milsim. About the same but the gear is not as strict and you can use highcaps. Then you have what we call paintsoft. This game type is just run and gun. It is fun and if you don't like to worry about a game plan this is for you.
Paintsoft and milsim are open games.
Realmils are invite only and have a age limit to them as well.
Main thing is to enjoy the game you want to play in. Follow the rules of that game and play with honor.

You can say it's all airsoft, but they are 2 completely different types of games.
You name a game, I've been to it.

If I've banned you, then you have more than likely deserved it.

If I deleted a post it didn't need to be there or I simply didn't like it.

I would be willing to give it a try. I like the idea of having to put some though into your load out. At this point, I think the best thing to do right now is to host multiple realmil or milsim games with varying rules. That way you can play the way you would like, on the most part.

Like i said, I would love to participate in one of these games but I will need some practice...

Chippy, the real mils are not for everyone. Most of the times they have an age restriction, because of the field. The last one I went to, I didn't fire a single bb and the one before, I didn't even go thru 1 whole midcap. That is also something about realmils, NO HI-CAPS. The real mils take longer to plan. Most of the time it takes 2-4 months of work before. I have been working on one for over a year. I wnat the first one in SC to be a good one. Another problem is you need land. A good real mil cannot be run on 40 acres. The bigger the land the better the game.

A Ford Pinto, and a Ferrari 458 Italia are just cars.  Yet there is a huge difference in they way they are used and feel.  Same for airsoft.

Since I'm 15 I guess I'm going to have a lot of time to get my gear perfected before I can play...
But I really would like to give one a try in the future. And I don't really like high caps anyways, I try to stick with midcaps and lowcaps.

Been reading into this a lot.  I started playing airsoft a few years ago in Lebanon, TN at the Bad Karma airsoft field.  One of, if not the largest free fields in the US.  Anyway,  a couple of game types I wanted to suggest from past plays are as follows for Mil-Sim:

CQB sweep and clear missions.--Obviously, the title says it, go thru cqb buildings with a small team, and eliminate hostile forces--Add hostages to make your shooting skills be put to the test.

Bomb games--A hostile force has control a compound with a bomb inside (bomb being basically some sort of alarm with timer, so when it's set, it goes off unless stopped, nobody wants to be blown to bits)
The attacking force is to divide itself into several other squads and tactically take out the op force and nuetralize the bomb.

VIP Escort--Has always been one of my personal favorites..Take 2 teams, one is to have  2 objectives..number 1, to hold a fortified base or area and defend from attack.  Number 2, is to send out a small squad to escort a high value VIP to  a helo pad or convoy location to be extracted without the VIP being wounded or captured.  And to make it more difficult, the team attacking said base, and attempting to destroy VIP doesn't know where said location to deliver VIP is, however can obtain written clues at certain "hot spots" on the field..(obviously a bit of searching is required, and some rules like not allowing VIP and escort team to leave until 10 minutes or so after the game has started)
The only ones who know the locations of Helo pad or convoy route are game refs (figure if you have 2 possible locations, it forces attacking team to divide forces along which routes to take blah blah), and game refs would really act as a "general in an office" with intel to basically tell their team, I want VIP extracted to either, here or here, by such and such time..

It can get pretty complicated, but if done right, makes for a quite challenging 1-3 hour game.

As far as mil sim games go however, i do believe in utilizing only mid or low caps, seeing as you will reload more often than if you do with hi's..it's really not about the quantity of either mag, but the fact that you WILL be reloading much more.

The next thing to real MIL SIM, is to use actual weapons, with the blue-barrel conversion kit using "simunition"
which is the actual caliber of the fire arm, only firing a projectile that leaves a visible paint mark on impact, and ussually, the projectile is about the size of a 9mm round hitting you with a little less force than a normal round that'd penatrate and injur you.

Oh well, I really hope some of you guys would be interested in playing some VIP games or varients of some sort!!
Kill or be killed...Ah hell..it's just bb's, only stings a bit.
