Video Editing Software

Post by uboat4 » Thu Dec 12, 2013 4:16 am

I was wondering if anyone knew some good video editing software that would allow me to play videos while having simple animations added in like some simple shapes?

Adobe Premiere Elements may be worth looking into. It's one of the entry level editors (~$100) but still offers some nice features. Yes, it has the ability to overlay simple shapes, smart fix footage, and adjust nearly all aspects of the video (i.e. volume mixing, etc) without breaking the bank. It doesn't have near the power of adobe's full CS packages, as you can imagine, but at a mere fraction of the cost it's definitely worth looking into.

Simply editing of cllips can be done with windows movie maker, and comes native in windows. However, the codec support is poor so reading some and writing most won't be possible. I personally paid the ~$100 for Premiere Elements just to read/write mac codecs.

If money is no object and more features is what you're after, the ~$400-600 range has Sony Vegas Pro. Or the entire Master Collection of CS6 for around $2,200.

I edited all the Tech Talk w/ Dominum videos with Sony Vegas Pro. It's a robust piece of video editing software, but tends to be out of the range of most casual DIYers. There are some cheaper versions of Sony Vegas, but they still can be costly. Windows Movie Maker will work in a pinch, though it won't be flashy.

Here's another example of what you can do with Sony Vegas Pro.

Mind you the intro took a some time.
