Post by Isotope » Fri Aug 20, 2010 5:00 pm

A buddy and I headed over to the PJ (US Air Force Pararescuemen) compound to check out their stuff, here are a few teaser pics of some things, they had laying around.

Not me. It takes a certain type of crazy to put yourself through that personal hell they call Pararescue school.

That's Me!  Yep, Medical, Critical Care Nurse, that's my in with the PJs, this is what I do out here:

Transport guys who've been shot up, blown up, and otherwise injured to the helos, sometimes I get to fly with them and the PJs, but most times the PJs can handle it without an advanced provider on board.

In this one I'm trying to find out why the British MERT (CH-47) Helo is flying the wrong direction, i.e., away from the patient, instead of towards us.

ok well it is nice to put a name to a face. fed many a SEAL from manouvers after comming aboard ship after a week of eating dirt and bugs. ;D

also it does look like USAF needs to get off their butts and get those guys new dedicated helos...

I don't believe they do, I just think the pilot didn't check the map before he went on mission.

Did the same back in the early-mid 90's with SEALS on board the submarine I was on.

Actually, the PJs have 4 dedicated Helos, one down for repairs, they fly missions everyday as they are tasked with retrieving casualties from the battlefield and bringing them to the Role III medical facilities.  Not a traditional role for them, as our here they have become an ambulance service.

You gotta do what you gotta do. I'm sure it makes the guys on the ground more comfortable. Best Medevac you could ask for.

the blackhawks are still a good choice for them.  quick, reliable, and quiet.  plus small enough to get into tight LZs while still carrying a buncha people
