Internet Safety Briefing?

Post by D.Smitty » Sat Jul 13, 2013 12:19 pm

I was thinking about ways to make airsoft games run more smoothly, and an idea came to me. With minimal assistance, a few players can put together a short Rules video and Safety video about AOSC games on Youtube.

I feel that this would cut down on the time spent organizing at the beginning of the day and help new players acclimate. After all, if you have to go over EVERY rule before every game, the meetings will take 20+ minutes. At big games, keeping 100+ players quiet and attentive is a tall order.

I'm not saying cut the safety briefings out (insurance probably wouldn't let that happen, anyway), but a video could explain the sometimes confusing topics for newer players and make the safety brief a 'refresher'.

Now, I have a flip cam and I'd be happy to get a proof-of-concept video up. If you think this is a good idea, post a comment and add suggestions to what you think should be in the video. Let's keep it short (10 minute max).

Safety Video:
Blind Man calling
Confrontations with other players (i.e. another player accusing you of unfair play)
MED rules
Safety kills

General Rules Video:
When you are hit, what you can and can't do
Attire (balance and gear rules)
Medic mechanics (include standard "everybody medic", medic "white rope", and limited medic)
Respawn rules *include spawn camping and anti-spawn camp rules
Vehicle mechanics *might save for an advanced video
We all started doing what we love somewhere...

Love the idea! Trouble is getting people to actually watch it.
(Maybe require it to be posted with each AOSC event on the forums...)

Also, Stealth kills!

People barely read the thread. What would be awesome is an actual speech cheat sheet so every game has the same rule set said. Modify for games as needed.

I like the idea of the rule sets in a taped briefing but tend to agree with Felix that many people wouldn't use it. The idea of a "Script" for the safety briefing is a good idea.

No, just all of us experienced players have to be role models, and take a knee, and SHUT UP.

Seriously, making everyone take a knee quiets the whole group down.

Sorry, not that either of the two other ideas are bad. But its normally the people who haven't played before who pay attention, and those who come all the time that chit chat and slow the briefing down.

Go over blind firing, shooting in cracks through walls, getting hit through cracks etc.

And then do a quiz, like they do for Fulda. As in
"After completing the video, follow the link in the description to take the safety quiz."

Then they print out a "score card/results sheet" with a time stamped pass.

What really should be done is make a video guide explaining all the game rules and then posting it into the introduction area for new players to see. It can then be linked into game threads for people who don't have an account yet to see.

problem would be new players who dont go on the forums, and we couldnt actually SHOW it at most places, no leckletricities at the actual field.

I'll bring the poison... butter. It adds a great flavor to the popcorn.

But, yeah, that's not really an option. Gerb's suggestion is the best, taking the videos so people can watch them on the forum, not during game day.

To whomever plans on making this: Please do give physical examples not just talk about the rules and add in a little humor to keep us interested, nobody likes to watch a boring rules video.

Make it seem like a documentary from the National Geographics
