I wanna learn to work on gearboxes. Could any of you point me in the right direction? Im mechanically inclined

Couple of different things you can do here.

One is that you can use the internet and look up videos, guides, and reviews on gearboxes to learn how they work. You can learn how to disassemble them, to upgrade them, and modify them.

Two, is that you can buy a cheaper gun, or possibly one that's broken, and take it apart yourself. Learn hands on. Generally, if it is broken, you'll be able to see what the issue is. But, if it's not obvious, it might take you a bit to really figure out what the issue is, as you won't have much of an idea of what you're looking at.

I suggest finding a few guides and just learning what all the parts are and what their function is. There is some knowledge on this forum, but forums like Airsoft Forum and Airsoft Mechanics will have a lot more in depth information.

Then start taking things apart and putting them back together....

After that start dealing with upgrades.

I learned all the parts names and thier function need more knowledge on wiring.

For stock wiring or something like a mosfet? Stock wiring is extremely basic... the trigger is inline electrically between the battery and the motor. Pull the trigger> connects the copper contacts> complete the circuit> motor spins> gun fires. The larger the wire (lower the gauge) the more voltage/amperage/wattage/POWAR the system can handle.

Changing out connectors on guns and batteries to deans is really common. Makes a much more secure connection than stock Tamiya connectors, which often arch (under high powered systems), which burns/corrodes the contacts in the connector until they will no longer pass voltage.

When you start dealing with high powered LiPo batteries, you'll get this same arching problem, but in your mechanical trigger contacts. If the system is drawing too much amperage, the trigger can get so hot that the plastic that holds the metal tabs of the trigger starts to melt and deform, sometimes causing the trigger to stay stuck in a firing position (not good!). This is when you add a Mosfet to the system, which makes sure the power for the motor does not travel through the trigger mechanism.

Yea true but knowledge is power

If you have more than one gun, crack one open and see how it works from there.

HAving a second gearbox is the best way of learning hands on, along with youtube.

Ill have to try that

wow alot of headache.... got enough advil? Do they sell dvds on working on gearboxes

Honestly just use youtube and check some forums, as much as I can't stand the people on Airsoft mechanics I would suggest reading up over there. It is a treasure trove of AEG tech.

Also those gearbox's above are hands down the easiest gearbox's in the world to work on.
