Well it's not an MG4 even if the place you got the pic from said it was... MG42/MG3s are the only ones with those stocks, even the 5.56 Ameli doesn't have the stock... unless it's been a rather recent development for the Ameli.

So the only other one I can think of that has that type of stock is the Steyr MG 30, which doesn't even have the same receiver as that gun.

It's an Austrian military's replacement machine gun for MG42.
It fires 7.62x51mm cartridge.

I honestly don't remember, I found it on another forum, in a thread asking if shemaghs were used in the military,  and a guy posted that picture, and said it was him and a buddy in Afghanistan.

Judging by the 1st ID patch, IR Flag and dirty ACU I would say they are United States Soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division...

Lots of "non-regulation" equipment is used in theatre. For example, I have a Marine buddy who has pictures of him and his platoon mates defending a position in their silkies (Marine Corps PT shorts).
