SAW stands for Squad Automatic Weapon, not M249.  The Army just calls the M249 a SAW because ti is the one in current use.  Other support weapons are also considered SAWs.  Support weapons can also be called an Automatic Rifle.

I see...I dimly recall remembering that being in a thread a while back.

Well, lesson learned.  Let it never be said that Smitty doesn't admit it when he's wrong, except when he's right.

the whole g36 series is modular from the get go, same as augs..and dw, p90s make excellent mini-support guns! not very realistic but gets the job done
you just get more respect if you a LMG around!  ;D

Chef CA and SRC both make RPK's.

So the ammunition limit is strictly ammunition? you can use hicaps as opposed to mids and lows? as long as there is not a magazine limit. most of our guys carry 7 mags as per their regular military load outs. the restriction is strictly round wise?

Yes, ammunition restriction is strictly by rounds in mags.  This is so that we do not exclude any players who cannot afford sets of midcaps or lowcaps.

The decision was made so that being a support gunner had an actual benefit over a player with hicaps (as in the fact that the support gunner has 4x the ammo without reloading).

The "can only reload at spawn" is to make it so that players have a penalty for "running out" of ammo.  Snipers are immune to this rule because their rate of fire is already so low and because most snipers only have 2-6 total mags, anyway.

By the way, the ammo restriction includes ALL WEAPONS ON YOUR PERSON.  This means that I, as a person who generally enjoys carrying an MP7, shotgun, and M4 or SVD, must balance my mags to avoid breaking this rule (I will probably go 100 rds shotgun, 500 rds MP7, and 8 120 rd mids+ 1 300 rd hicap for the M4...giving me 1560 total rounds).

By the way, a grenade is not a magazine, so GLs (such as my trusted M79 "blunderbuss") and Tornados, claymores, rocket launchers, etc. do NOT count toward your 1600.  Pistols, SMGs, and shotguns, however, DO COUNT.

Platoon assignments are up, along with AO maps!

If you call yourself a South Carolinian and an airsofter, you better be showing up to this game and in the private planning forum! 8)

Alright, I was talking with some of my team, and one of them will be using an MG36, but also wants to have his Thompson on his back. I don't think it's a problem, but what about ammo restrictions? I'm thinking that he would still be limited to 5000rnds, regardless of how many weapons he carries with him, but I just want to make sure.

That's because it's private ;) A mod will have to add you to the planning forums.
