Gun Suggestions

Post by parabolicphi » Sun Nov 28, 2010 5:53 pm

I've spent a good amount of time reading the Gun reviews thread but haven't really had my questions answered.  I'm wanting to buy a decent rifle that is easy to find reliable parts for. It's been 7 years since I've played seriously and I'm out of touch with the industry now.  I'm looking to stick with the AR-15 line of rifles in any variation. If you guys could have any rifle in the AR line under $400 what would it be? Both CQB and long rifles.

i bought my son the classic army sportsline series which he loves and it was only 120 new.  the drawback is the ca wiring harness wears out after a few months.  we did upgrade the hop up and new tite bore barrell wlhich was only 50 bucks and a new wiring harness was only 25.  he loves that gun and it has been reliable. we have had it for a little over a year now

A G&G GR-15 would be  good too there $220 on www.airsoftcarolina.com. they have great shipping too. PS the gun doesnt come with a battery/ charger. if you get the gun i recommend a Intellect 9.6 volt nunchuck battery and a Tenergey SMART CHARGER. that would bring your total to 270-300 dollar range.... pricey, yes, but it won't let you down.

I'd say a VFC M4 E-Series. It's an amazing rifle out of the box, chronos a tasty 390 fps with a .2 out of the box, has excellent internals, needs no upgrades to compete directly out of the box. It's a high quality gun, and myself and several others on this site can speak to their quality.

I have heard that the VFC M4 E- Series was the best gun out there. It's 200 bucks, and everybody that has had one whom I have talked to has told me that it is super reliable and accurate out of the box. It will probably last for years, and you won't have to upgrade it if you don't want to. It is supposed to have amazing internals and externals, and it's definately worth 280 bucks. Steevo has one; you can ask him about it.

Here's Dom's review of it:

Other guns are OK, but I wouldn't waste your money on a $150 gun if you have enough for something like this. CA SLs are known to break a lot, and aren't really even worth fixing in my opinion, and I know I'm not the only one who has had wiring problems with a G&G. If you have the money, go with a VFC or KWA because you get what you pay for.

I would suggest the KWA sr12 or the sr10  and you would have a top of the line in my opinion aeg that has an outstanding rate of fire , top notch internals with and would  be right under the 400 fps limit for aegs on full auto. I have the sr12 and have not had any problems with it and it has excellent range for a stock aeg. The rate of fire is like a water hose of bb's...lol.... And for cqb i would suggest the kwa sr5...  All of the above aeg's are under 400 but do not include a battery or charger.

I agree with smoke, KWA is definatly the way to go. The only other gun in my opinion that even compares to it is the VFC E series. But a KWA can handle an m150 spring, wich is one of the reasons law enforcement use them. And regardless of what gun you get, make sure to get a MOSFET made by SteevoLS.

This is probably the way I'll go. I'd like to have a few rifles compact and long that I don't have to buy an assortment of batteries, accessories, and mags. Once again very helpful info.

As has already been said, go with VFC. The externals are nicer than KWA and Classic Army, and the internals are just as good if not better.

my 2cents...kwa's are good rifles when they work. Myself as well as others have bought 2gx kwa rifles and they have been non functional within 2 weeks. Also, VFC's E series is a great choice, cost efficient as well as a reliable/competitive rifle. Also though, the new Classic Army x series rifles are great out of the box and finally, if you can find them stateside, G&P rifles are excellent AEGs. just somethings to think about.

Educated suggestions based on experience:

If $400 is your price point, then don't skimp on a sub-$200 gun. I would get any the following, in this order:

- VFC Armalite of any variety... M4s, M16s, and anything in between, all with excellent internals, beautiful gunmetal-finish externals, functioning bolt catches, etc. If you get one, be sure to tighten the screws on the hopup. Other than that, good to go out of the box.

- G&P Armalite of any variety... VFC Externals are on par with G&Ps, but most G&Ps have "real" trademarks. The latest gearboxes have 8 and 9mm bearings, etc. You can't go wrong here.

- Classic Army X-Series M4/M16... The externals look a lot like a 2010 KWA, and the internals are very solid. Good performers, and about the same price as a VFC.

- KWA SR series... Much like Spyder said, these are great when they work. Of the 4 I've had access to, every single one had a craptastic and nonfunctioning hopup bucking out of the box. Chris at Airsoft Carolina has had similar issues with the ones they stock. On the flip side, the gearboxes are very strong, though it would be unwise to stick an M150 in there... it will crack under the pressure before too long.

depending on how long you wait to make your decision, I just ordered a G&P m16a3 grenadier and ill post up a mini review when it comes in...shouldn't take too long, but from what ive been reading online, newer G&P models have much improved internals from past generations and the externals are still considered the best in airsoft (albeit systema).
