I wanted to know everyones opinion on wearing shooters glasses during a game?

Post by Smoke » Sun Nov 28, 2010 10:13 pm

I have often wondered about how everyone at the aosc feel's about the saftey of using shooter's saftey glasses during a game.... I myself would not feel safe unless i had full seal goggles because i would be afraid of them sliding down and getting shot in the eye.  I have played the sniper role  and ALWAYS aim for center mass shot's but have been worried about shooting at player's with this style glasses because i have seen them shatter during test's at point blank range sometime's.  I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on this.  And if you wear them i mean no disrespect to you            I was just curious

I've been lit up a few times in the face, and am very glad I did not wear my shooters glasses when it happened.  Being shot by Clutch also sobered me up, because while my shooters glasses ARE ansi rated, a shot from a well tuned sniper rifle COULD tilt my glasses, or even knock them off, while the AEG guys are shooting at me.  So I stick with my goggles from now on.

Many I have seen have gaps in the rear where a BB coming from 45 degrees behind could easily hit your eye.  I still see people wearing them at different fields and don't understand why they are not banned.

I have been wearing shooting glasses since I started, and have yet to have an issue. Been hit direct in the glasses many many times, yet they hold. Unless the AOSC changes that rule I will continue to wear them.

Technically, the ones i wear are just safety glasses, not even shooting glasses.  They have taken countless direct hits and not had any problems whatsover.  I prefer them to the goggles, since they also have no fogging problems.

Well, I just use the steel mesh goggles I bought at op24-2 from smitty. they're sealed around the edges, and no lens means no fog. Also, the mesh acts like a tint blocking out some light, but it's not too bad cause I could still see pretty clearly after dark.

I agree with Garrett, the only time I don't wear those are during the CQB games.

I don't like glasses just because I had a bb shoot right in between my lense and my eye in a backyard game one time. Im happy that it just happened not to hit anything :-X

I also have not had any problem with my shooting glasses, I use winchesters, and like others have said my shooting glasses have taken hits with out any problems. I too believe that we should still be allowed the option to wear them.

my .02 cents

Ive played with a lot of different glasses, ranging from mesh, to ski, to shooters glasses.  I personally own all and even a full fiberglass facemask (AoT edition).  Truthfully the shooters glasses are actually the best of them. Reason why is when you play woodland games (like Op 24-2) all of the other goggles would fog up, and the facemask was just too rigid for the play style. Its a simple alternative to the fog and facepain.  I played whach-a-bravo at one point at 24-2 with us jumping up, shooting off 10 rounds each, then ducking to avoid, and none of the shots came near my face.  And even when they did i could see, or at least know, to look away or cover my face.  If you play up close, dont where them. if your playing 100 feet+ with normal AEGS and maybe a sniper or two, it should be fine.

That was too long..

Don't do that again... anybody. Most ski goggles aren't meant to be stopping projectiles, and have been shown to be too weak for airsoft use. The same can be said for a lot of the old military sand goggles; a BB can punch right through.

this is NO JOKE.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!
[glow=red,2,300]You must wear ANSI RATED EYE PROTECTION. There is NO EXCEPTION to this rule.[/glow]
On that note most shooting glasses are ANSI rated. I preffer glasses over other forms of eyepro even though it does leave you more vulnerable. I recommend all newer players wear FULL Seal or masks.

I occasionally use ESS Ice Naro shooting glasses and played part of Op24-2 wearing Wiley-X Jake glasses. They are both ansi and mil-spec rated. I generally don't play with them because 1: our home field doesn't allow them.
2: Because I need something covering my mouth (I am terrified of getting teeth shot out).
One recommendation I will make on the subject is to find glasses that fit close to your face. This makes it harder for bb's to get in. Also, I would recommend glasses (or goggles for that matter) with both ansi and mil-spec ratings. The mil-spec rating certifies that the lens will stop a twelve gauge shotgun with some particular shot, plenty of protection for airsoft.
