Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
Fair enough, I was just curious.

There's no kill switch on awesome!
Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
I think it would bring airsoft to a competitive level between schools, and possible generate revenue for the school if the school sponsored the games at a field or on the football field maybe and people came and paid to watch. There are pros and cons, but I feel like the pros outweigh the cons. Also this would be great for people who are looking to join the military (sort of). This would also promote leadership, respect, and teamwork through a fun sport. And if airsoft became more wide known, then it might look good on a college application.SteevoLS wrote: Here's a question. Even assuming you do get a club started, what is the point? What could it offer that you can't achieve simply by putting up a few posters around the school?

here is another thing to consider...along with the physical exam you probally should have a waiver and and permission letter that the parents need to sign. just something to think about.

Just wondering, the physical exam part, would that just be like a normal wrestling or football form?

Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
I was wondering if I could get in touch with the fella that makes the waiver forms for the fields, or can we make one ourselves? In addition, for the exam, it'd probably be more of a cross country exam than anything else, as Airsoft isn't exactly straining on the upper body. BigMan23, if you could shoot over the waiver you used, so we could tailor it to our needs, that would be awesome.

Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
Well I had a random idea for the beginning of a competition, or something to be worked for.
We could have three or four different segments, each one tailoring to a different part of airsoft and the person themselves.
1)A mud run kind of deal where we test the endurance of the team as a whole
2)Tactical movement and teamwork actually on the field
3)Straight up TDM to give off who's best at killing who
4)Gun repair or assembling, since we want to throw a technical side into this.
5)We really cant have a safety portion, but there could be a hidden 'who was the safest, best sportsmanship, and so on' section

Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
I think the best game mode for a Airsoft match between High school's would be the hole punch game, that we commonly play at Fort Stewart. It inlvolves Map Orientation, speed, teamwork, and over all skill at defending your team, and curtailing the efforts of the other teams.

Hole punch? How does that scenario work?

I believe this is it, It's on scairsoft.com, however atm I am on the school computer, and I'm not gonna use a proxy right now.
As for the waiver, I would ask for you to review it,

If there is anything I need to edit, or add, let me know, please.

Under Liability, where it says 'By signing this form, i expressly warrant that..I (if I am the participant)' Even if the kid is 18, i'd still get the parent sign it.
Otherwise to my untrained lawyer eye, it looks sound.
ALSO to add in, if your looking for something to boost your presentation heres the Clemson Airsoft Team's page, http://clemson.orgsync.com/org/airsoft/home. Under information is some really useful, well, information for supporting your point and dispelling the common misconceptions about airsoft.

Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
Not trying to be a killjoy, but hoping for anything more than a simple club is unreasonable. For a plethora of reasons, understand that you will never receive any funding or permission for anything at all on their property.
I know you are a smart guy, use that. Go in VERY prepared, with a full scale presentation to wow and sway them, as they will start out very skeptical of the idea. Good luck!

Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
Dom, I'm not asking them for funds, transportation, space or anything, save a class room and the title of a club. Transportation would be on us, Fund raisers would be started by the founders funds, thus technically the property (Airsoft Equipment purchased with the raised funds) would be ours. Transportation would be provided by external sources and private chaperone's, or by some miracle, a county bus. And at the end of the day, my main, selfish, motive stands tall. I don't want the illusion that this is in any way similar to college funded team, such as UConn and Clemson. Sure we may share a title, but the differences are too large. They are funded by the school. We are not. They get excused absences to goto Op Irene and other large scale events. We don't. I could go on for a bit, but I think this is slowly being twisted by optimism...
With all that negative talk done, we are currently making a website, well, Chris is making a website, we shall see how that goes.
Currently have an advisor who has 30 minutes for class available every day, but still talking to another teacher who might be able to provide and hour or more.
I am currently talking to Zach R. who has a large property in Bluffton, which will probably be used as our practice field, and if all goes well, bi-weekly events to supplement the Fort Stewart games in GA.
Waiver is essentially completed, and any tweaks will be made on spot.
Now we have to nail a presentation and we should be home free.

That being the case, you are setting a very reasonable goal and I think you have a good chance of making it happen, naturally I wish you the best of luck

Re: Thoughts on a High School Airsoft team
Jon, I would like to try and start this at our school as well. I have to forms and I'm getting it all scrambled together. Would you, if this all works, want to form a high school league? We would need more, but they can come later.
