To continue beating this dead horse (admittedly one of my favorite pastimes):
Like most things in this sport, it's preference. I have always, and still do, prefer hicaps in almost all applications. This stems from two things, one being that I hate wearing gear except in winter, and the other being that I hate having no clue how many rnds I have left. If you are trying to be quiet, hicaps are not loud. They are only loud if you are not making an effort to be quiet, so that is not really a good con for them. Also, the other usual con listed for hicaps is that they must be continually wound. If you do it right, they only have to be wound once or twice to feed every round. Many people argue that using a hicap means you spray and pray, this simply is not the case. It is just as easy to spray and pray using mids, and I would argue that I have seen just as many, if not more, people dump ammo down range like crazy while using mids. I, for example, am naturally very light trigger-fingered. In all my guns except the M60, I almost invariably carry two hicaps which last me all day, or most of it. This means I do not have to wear a bunch of hot gear. Now, I promised myself when I bought the M60 that I would not do what a lot of people do and use it like an assault rifle, but instead would use it as intended, for sustained covering fire in support of other infantry. I had to overcome my natural tendency to save money and only shoot at targets that I had a good shot on or had to suppress on semi. I do have mids for the games that require them, and have no problem with them when needed, though they are not my preference at games that don't need them.
