Hit Calling

Post by chubtastic321 » Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:20 pm

Ok, after reading many different topics on both this website and scaa, I have noticed that there is a lot of debate on what people "should" do when hit. I have been to roughly 10 different "organized" airsoft events and at every SINGLE one, there was an instance of someone getting lit up because they didn't clearly call their hit. At every game, there is a briefing about "loudly calling your hits" and putting a dead rag on. I have personally been in a fire fight, shot some one, and they just got up and walked away. I didnt even know if they were calling themselves out, or just walking away. They didn't even have a dead rag on. So, i shot a 3-5 second burst of full auto at him. His response was vulgar and told me I was "retarded" for shooting a dead guy.....I'm sure everyone can relate to a similar story. My point is, instead of just saying "HIT!" everyone should put their gun straight up in the air and wave their dead flag. Because honestly, you can't hear people say "HIT!", even if they actually say it. Think about it, theres probably around 10 guys in close vicinity shooting, thick woods, and your'e in the heat of the moment, you arent going to hear them. And it just blows my mind when dead guys walk around with their weapons in a tactical position, or they are shouldering their weapons, and when they get shot, they get soooo upset.

I just have seen a lot of concern and debate on this subject and I always hold my gun up in the air and immediately pull out my dead flag. And I rarely get mistaken as an "active" or "alive" enemy. Also, If you are dead and walking back to respawn, put your gun in a non threatening position when walking. I guess to conclude my point, I'm just going to say that we should address clearly yelling HIT!, and putting your weapon up in the air, and wearing/waving your dead flag before each event. That way people don't whine/complain when they get shot while they are dead. If people would follow those three things, it would help a lot. Also, dead guys, make sure you walk around with your dead rag on your HEAD, not hanging out of your pocket, or your mag pouch.

The AOSC leadership (specifically us Game Coordinators) have been playing close attention to this recently. We have set rules that, if followed, will prevent this. One of the things we will be checking on at chrono is for a dead rag that meets the requirements.

Rules:

Words of wisdom Chub. If everyone would do this, there'd be a lot less problems. Bear in mind, however, that even if you do all of this, you may still be hit on accident. Don't complain, that's how this game works.

My opinion about this is this:

If you don't have a dead rag, you don't have the right to complain
If you are not following the laws of "Dead man tell no tales," you do not have the right to complain.
If you do not drop when getting hit or make some effort to remove your body from crossfire, you do not have the right to complain.
If you are firing your weapon while dead, you do not have the right to complain. (Not even if you are clearing a jam)
If you did not bother yelling "Hit," then you do not have the right to complain.
If you agree to be used as cover for somebody (somebody hiding behind dead body), you do not have the right to complain. (And you are being silly for that matter)
If you are screaming, cursing, and all in all, being an unpleasant fellow, you may complain, but we are not going to listen to you.

Now, to get the right to complain you need to:
Have a dead rag out.
Have your gun high above your head
Play dead
Yell a good firm loud HIT
If someone shoots at you, remind the person that you are dead
If you are moving, tell people what you are doing (moving towards respawn, looking for a lost item, looking for a rep, or whatever)

If you are still being shoot at, calmly approach the person and explain to him/her that you were hit, and you felt as though you made that matter loud and clear. Do not be rude and such. Ask that person for his name or something to that matter so that you can refer said individual to a rep. What you are doing here is that you are raising a flag on that person so that a rep can be aware of him/her. Don't bother calling the person out and complaining to a rep about that person. They are busy doing other things. All you can do is make a rep be aware that the said person has been shooting at people who are out and may need to be considered banning. You see, we want to make sure that we don't get someone playing airsoft who is going to play in an unsafe way. It is not likely that someone is actually shooting at an out person on purpose. Just as we can't tell were the bb really falls, we can't tell if a person is out or not all the time. So don't lose your cool. DON'T PANIC in other words. It is better to just shrug it off. I would recommend that you only make a deal out of someone shooting at you when you are out only if you feel that person is generally doing that to be harmful or something like that.

Nobody says it better than Nobody!! 8)

On a related note:
I know a lot of people lose their dead rags on the field due to wind, tactical rolling, muscle spasms or whatever ;D...here's what I did at the last game...I had an orange T-shirt that I cut in half and used the neck hole to put over my head so it cant fly off. Works great...only problem is finding a place to put it when you don't need it...give it a try!
