Hey guys, I'm in the process of trying to upgrade my Comms, so I was wondering, what radios/headsets do YOU use?

I have a couple different sets of comms. I usually run Midland radios but have also used Cobra brand. I go with at least a 10 mile radio. Works good enough for most fields I've been on.
I've used the Midland headsets and usually the PTT stops working after a couple months. The Midland lapel mic and earrbud set, the mic died on me two different ones. The two that I mainly use now are Ebaybanned Swimmer set and a mic with earbud setup. The Swimmer style has been reliable with the exception of in the cold. The Swimmer does seal your ear so you tend to sweat alot wearing it. The mic/earbud setup is like a cop's setup with a CB style mic and an earbud attached. It has worked really well for me. Unfortunately I have no idea the brand or where I got it.

I wanted a set of comms and went shopping at Academy. For 80.00 I got midland radios with headsets, charging station with a car adapter, and rechargeable batteries. The radios have worked very well for me. Without spending a lot of money, I suggest checking your local sprting good store. They have some good deals at times.
this is the set I got.

24mi Cobras, cheap and work plenty well enough for airsoft, plus they come with a decent earpiece/wire mic.

I can't find out if these radios will interface with everybody else's FRMS GMRS radios (i.e. cobra and other 2 way radios). Do they?

I know that I have midlands and when we where in TN playing the other weekend, I had no problem communicating with 82d. That being said, I would say yes to the midlands, not sure bout cobra

All FRS/GMRS radios use the same frequencies on the same channels.....this is dictated by FCC regulation. The only variation would be sub channels. Some brands have different subs than others but for the most part it is fairly standardized.
And yes, the radios in that link can be programmed with the FRS/GMRS freq's as well as any sub channels to be able to communicate with any brand of FRS/GMRS radio.
Keep in mind however that by FCC rules and regulations use of FRS/GMRS frequencies are to be on an approved radio designed just for that use. Also, the use of the GMRS feq's require a license even though everyone seems to use those freq's anyway.
So the legality of using such a radio is questionable at best. The FCC will prosecute if they catch you...So.....use such at your own risk.
