I have started paying attention to people's call signs. Some make sense and some are funny, and some I just don't get. So post up how you came up with yours or how you got it.
Diesel--started off as dieselmech, but was shortened to just Diesel. Reason why, I am a diesel mechanic and my coffee I make is like motor oil

Jester.
I have occasionally found myself good at lightening the mood of a group of people with humor-the purpose of a jester if you're into medieval history.

Stomper-
I was spending the night at a friends house before my very first "real" airsoft game. After I went to bed, one of my friends jokingly said something, so I got up. All of the lights were off and it was so dark that I couldnt even see my hand in front of my face, so I tripped over an arrow and fell down. I tried to get back up, only to fall again. After falling down a third time, I gave up and went to bed again. I guess I made so much stomping noise trying not to fall down that he called me Stomper. I woke up the next morning with a bruise and a headache.

Nothing special here. Smitty was my dad's nickname to his military buddies, and I always liked it. So, when I started playing airsoft, I thought that I would reference that.
Dad still thinks it's funny that's what I call myself here.
We all started doing what we love somewhere...

Originally mine was Stealth Legend. Took that because the name I usually run on the internet (Shadow) was already taken somehow, so I played off the stealth idea since I have a rep among my friends for being a ninja.
I changed to Stealth Hero though. Keeping the stealth part and the hero being a reference to the CoD4 superheroes. Shotgun only boys.

I don't really have a reason behind my nickname except that when I first started playing we all chose our own callsigns. Somehow Slate came up for me and I rolled with it. Now, most people don't even know my real name...

Hahahah that's funny. Wish I had a story like that for mine. Mine is simply made up for online use/games. It originally was Deimos, which is greek for dread or terror. It's also the name of one of the moons of mars and the son of the greek god Ares. Well the game God of War came out, and all the kiddies started using that name all over the net. Since the name was usually taken I changed the D to a V and there ya go. My old call sign was OSMF, and I would love to go back to that!

Mine came from playing NBA Ballers on Xbox. I was like "Hmm... I need a street name... Tzer!! (Tee zur - for anyone who was confused about how to say it)" I was like 11. So now I just roll with it! And 1993 is my birth year

As you can tell I am a Star Wars fan with Darth Vader being my favorite character. When it first came out in 1978 I saw it 52 times in one year alone. Turn to the Dark Side-It is your Destiny!

Yea these many moons ago a friend started calling me Steevo. At this point in time I had no idea MTV or Jackass even existed, so I rolled with it. A few years later I became involved with a project online that used "LS" in it's logo. While there are probably millions of "Steevo" users online, there is only one "SteevoLS". I've stuck with it because to this day it remains unique.

There's no kill switch on awesome!

being unique is another reason why i always use mine. Ive only encountered 2 websites that another villid existed on. So if you encounter villid on the web or xbox live, 99% chance its me
