Recently, I have become interested in AK's. I was wondering what the best AK is for under 300. This won't come for a while as for I still need money for more important things, but I was looking at the TM AK. Yet, my only problem was how much I would have to do in upgrades to it. Are there any other good options for an AK? I don't really want real wood but I prefer that look, also don't mind the modern looking AK's either.

No upgrades. Just clean the barrel.

I want something more reliable and I'm not saying the cheapest thing I will spend the money like 250. I want it to be accurate with a good hop up.

It's plenty reliable, and is a very solid gun, don't push it to the side just because it's cheap. Some other AKs you should look at are CYMA AKs, possibly the CM048. Just because they are cheap doesn't me they are bad or unreliable.

I would still feel more comfortable with the TM despite the upgrades.

Why? What makes the TM better?

It's hop up and added attention to detail.

I run only G&G right now and I agree some of their guns are cheaper but they are just as reliable as their expensive versions and can rival a lot of other top companies. The big differences is that they have plastic bodies but awesome plastics can't remember what it exactly made of but it's just flexible to resist falls and drops but wicked strong and light

I own one of the Combat Machine AK47s myself; it's actually Esteban's old gun.

DO NOT BUY A TOKYO MARUI AK-47. Unless you plan on installing a metal body kit, you'll be left with a creaky, flimsy plastic hunk of junk wrapped around a nice gearbox. The Combat Machine AKs are made from the same nylon fiber that the M4s are made from. Mine is absolutely rock solid; it has no wobble or creak anywhere. The motor and gearbox are smooth as butter, the hopup (and accordingly the range and accuracy) are excellent, and the bang for your buck ratio is impossible to beat.

For the most part Tokyo Marui guns are not worth the price anymore.

Yeah, TMs are just not worth it. If you want realism, the go for the CYMA CM048. It shoots a little hot out of the box, but I believe still within the full auto limits. Plus it is full metal and wood, and I must say it is very solid and feels really good in your hands. It shoots well, and is well worth the price.

The G&G is also really nice, very solid, it's just not metal and wood. The G&G has a slightly higher rate of fire, and is more accurate. Both are nice guns, nicer than the TM's that I've held.

What type of battery should I get for this? 8.4 large or 9.6 large?

If you're not scared of them, I'd suggest a 7.4v 20c lipo from some place like www.hobbyking.com and a Venom/Tenergy/whatever balance charger. The battery would be $10-15 (if that) and the charger would be around $30. It would be about hte same as a 1600-200mah 9.6v battery in terms of output.

If you are interested in this, I can help you pick out a battery. I have quite a bit of experience with lipos.

Well wouldn't a large battery last a lot longer?

Larger capacity, yes. A 2400mah lipo can fit in the same space a 1100mah 8.4v Nimh would.
