I got a Thompson for xmas and I wanted to know how to make it look weathered?

Use it, a lot. Please don't try to fake weather it. 99% of the time, fake weathering a gun just makes it look like trash.

The best way to wear out a gun is to use it, if that means taking it with you on a run through the woods, jogging, crawling, jumping, sprinting, then that's what it means. But don't try to weather it, let it happen on it's own and it will look much better than trying to accelerate the process by doing it yourself.

*note* don't go running through woods where people might see you, it's just not a good idea, especially when you have a recognizeable gun in your hands.

Fake weathering is an art. There's a reason WETA Workshops makes tons of money making movie props. I would suggest the following (it's what I did when I had one).

1. Wood kit! Real wood = best wood.
2. Sliiiiightly rough up the edges with sand paper enough to break the finish, but not enough to go down to bare metal. This will allow the edges to start to wear more quickly without making it look like you attacked your gun with a grinder.
