I was wondering if anybody knows of any airsoft club or team at or around the University of South Carolina. That will be my place of residence for the next four years, and I don't plan on slowing down on airsoft. I've been investigating into it, but have had no luck finding one.
I still plan on heading home every so often on the weekends and rolling with Ironfox when I get the chance.
The only problem I currently have is that I will have to give up airsoft if I get accepted to the Naval Academy.

Trig, if you want to do more than just join a team hit up this guy. He's a master of getting Universities to recognize, fund and sponsor student teams. AKA free uniforms, BB's paid admission and paid accomodations if you have to stay overnight for a game

There was a guy at OP TMII about a year and a half ago at Clemson University at which there was a player (the intel officer for Alpha, wore MarPat with a helmet and an M16) who said he was part of some kind of USC airsoft group. I've not heard of him since though...

Wow, seems like we have a good number of folks.
This thing could fly easily.
So that being said, why don't we exchange our information; ex) Phone number, location of residancy, etc
What good is planning if we can't get a hold of each other?

Yes, Steevo, that would be nice, but let us sort ourselves out first. I'll let you know when we're ready.

I'm all for a new USC airsoft team, but I know a few things about starting new student organizations. Note that none of this is "official" information, and might have changed a little in the past year or so.
1) (this is from another org. that I was in when it got started) Student organizations have to exist (there are specific requirements that fall under "existence") for a full year before ANY funding is given to you. Even more important, student organization funding is VERY limited these days because of the economy and the amount you get depends upon your ability to kiss up to the student government.
2) There is a lot of paperwork to fill out. (along with deadlines and things like that, it would not surprise me if such an airsoft group would not be considered a "real" student organization until at least the Fall 2010 semester...meaning no funding until Fall 2011)
3) You have to have officers (president, vice, secretary, treasurer, etc.) that are current USC students who are responsible for the team and must keep their grades up. These officers are the lifeblood of the group, and if they fall apart (grades fall, drop out without finding new officers), the organization has to start over from scratch (as in no funding again for a year).
4) As a graduate student, I can be a member, but NOT an officer, of such an organization.
5) In order to get funding and support later, I'm certain that you will have to give a speech or letter at some point to the student government that gives reasons why such an organization should exist and how it would support/represent the university in a positive way (a "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" kind of thing)
Oh, and contact Matt from GEARS. I'm pretty sure that most of them are USC undergrads that could swell your ranks a bit. more members=more money later, trust me
