M.E.T.T.C.

What to consider before making a military action:

Mission- Will it change ability to complete the mission?

Enemy- Where is the enemy? Who is the enemy?

Terrain- What do my surroundings look like? Is there any key terrain nearby?

Time- How much time do I have to complete the task?

Civilian Considerations- Will I kill or injure any civilians? Do I have the opportunity to keep them from harm or offer humanitarian aid?

excellent post wolfx2.

Attn CO's and XO's this is part of establishing your ROE aka Rules of Engagement.  METTC and more should all be covered in your warning order!  You know when you assemble your troops and prepare them for battle...

Hit this link it outlines everything that should be considered in your METTC it also has links at the bottom taking you to other outlines that could prove very valuable in leadership.  These are intended to be printed out or incorporated in a leadership handbook.
