OP White Noise II - July 24th 2010

Heat stroke is no fun, I've had one before and now I'm extra careful about staying hydrated...

I think my favorite part of the day was after lunch, in the Silverado City rounds, when I shot Joshua through a big bush.

Just wanted to add a quick note on the heat. Some of the military "blouses" aka shirts are various blends of materials and are sweat wicking. Some do not breathe very well and will bake you.

I learned this after wearing a 50/50 cotton/nylon Tru Spec top one day at Redfox. After the first break I was nearly dead. I removed my hydration pouch from my chest rig and ran with just that thinking it would be a bit cooler. It made no difference.

Next game I wore a truspec battle shirt (I think thats what they're called) which has the same material mentioned above but just on the arms and shoulders. The rest is cotton. I had little over heating issues that day while my brother who wore the blouse was over heating just as we did at the first Redfox game.

    You make a good point, wearing wicking fabrics in the heat can cause dehydration due to "over sweating". Your body sweats to lower body temperature by moistening the skin so that light breezes (or wind) will cool you down but wicking materials will leave your skin dry (or more dry than it needs to be to cool) so your body continues to sweat in an attempt to lower your core temperature. When you have cotton or other fabrics that hold moisture your body can stop sweating and retain the fluid, which will minimize dehydration.
  On the other hand, wicking fabrics in the winter will keep you much warmer but that is a different topic for a different season. I am not trying to hijack this thread, I was compelled to respond due to the safety aspect. BB

Well guys and gals, I had fun at silverado city and got some kills there and got shot some too.  Like the you alll said the heat was killer.  Team G.O.A.T. was out for blood and end up being in the middle of no-wear for some action and I shot some 2 in the mile high tower (at the Top) but they where healed and came back really fast and killed us or was it the tank (tank i think)  but I still had a good time.  I wore only my underarmor and that helped with the heat a lil bit (a lil)  I did play much but had fun with some peeps I hadn't seen in awhile.  Tanker and Poca glad to see yous again and to all the peeps that did came out thank you for coming out and supporting the AOSC and redfox.  It may be awhile till I come out again unless there is a Triggertyme game coming soon

I know it's late to chime in here, but I haven't had a chance to before now!  I just wanna say how awesome it was to have 90 people show of for a game in 100 degree weather!  I had fun even though the only shooting I did was from my camera.  The problem with a whole feild redfox game is you have to have it in the summer or the 2 weeks around Christmas and New Years.  A winter game might should be taken into consideration here.
