Re: Crisis In Dunundistan II August 6/7 2011
Hey all, I was the heat casualty Saturday, unfortunately. Many thanks to the Bravo XO for dropping everything and racing to assist me. Also, big thanks to the Alpha guy right besides me who called it in while we were trekking back to the parking lot. To be honest, it caught me by suprise. I had heeded the admin's warnings about heat/hydration, reading them both on here and again being constantly reminded during the briefings. So I took tons of water in a day pack with me, and drank 7 water bottles over the course of 2 and a half hours.
Looking back, it clearly wasn't enough. I can't say I would have done anything different, I guess sometimes the heat just wins. What probably got me was that I was trying to be everywhere at once, running from the respawn to Mile High repeatedly in fruitless attempts to gain a foothold in a building. Sometimes, you just have to take it slow and not panic to get back and forth to objectives.
I recovered pretty quick, and while I felt woozy the rest of the day, I drank about 2 gallons of water and even managed to make it to work that night. I wasn't quite good enough to come back Sunday, unfortunately. Frankly, it's super embarrassing to become a heatstroke and have the game disrupted because of yourself. I overheard many times, "Who was the idiot who didn't bring water!" and the like, but oh well, I would have assumed the same. But just be forewarned, it can happen to anyone, I consider myself to be in good shape but it did me no good. Be careful out there, and see you next time, with 12 water bottles ready to go.

That weapon does not fire on full auto, so if you were getting hit with full auto from my direction then it was not from me, it was from Tony (Echo) who was 10-15 feet to my right. Please be careful with the accusations, since firing that gun on full atuo would be against the rules and that is something that I take very seriously. I have fast fingers BUT you would be able to tell the difference between full auto and not. I will talk to Tony about the incident. I can promise you that he did not mean to either.

First of all I would like to thank everyone who came out in the heat to have some fun. Big thanks to all the out of state players, especially fallout for bringing his nasty tank. Thanks to Bob and company for bringing the vehicles to make things interesting. Great job to Dom for hosting an excellent game and thanks to all the extra admin helpers. I saw quite a few good battles and some very dehydrated players. A lot of young and new guys from SC having been atending lately and. Have done well but could really benefit in the return of some of the older, more seasoned teams this fall. Thanks again Ga guys, love having such quality players come to our events and hope to see everyone again soon.

Re: Crisis In Dunundistan II August 6/7 2011
So for my AAR report finally. (Sorry, it has taken me two days to get it up but it was a long drive home and an even longer day at work yesterday.
First of all I would like to thank Dom for setting up the game and felix for helping him. I know there was worry about if my guys and the guys from TN had a good time. I can tell you that they did! Mojo, did a great job as Alpha CO with what he had to work with. His first plan at the start of the day was a good one and would have worked with more numbers. Once my guys got their head on them though, we just got in a groove that was hard for Mojo to do much about. It was also nice to meet some of the SC Admins and BoD.
It was a smaller game than we expected, but as Diesel's lady friends can tell you, size does not matter! Was it hot?!? Hell yes, but we are used to playing in that type of heat most weekends over terrain that is much worse than that. Marley, you have nothing to be shameful about. I lost about 5-8 guys in the first hour of the game to heat. It can and will happen to anyone. But now you know what it feels like and what to do about it. I am glad that you are ok and that we got you stabilized. NEVER let anyone make you feel bad about what happened! You are not an idiot... You are not less of a man because it happened.
The battle went well for the most part. There were things that I could have done differently and times when I put my people in the wrong spot. But it is a learning experience for EVERYONE and I learned a lot. I would like to thank all the Bravo guys who showed up from TN, SC, and GA. I had a lot of fun with you and you are welcome here anytime. I hope to run with all of you again at Fulda!
I am not going to gloat about the victory or talk about how Alpha failed at anything. Ya'll did good for the two days and fought against some great guys. There is nothing to hang your head in shame about. What worries me is when Diesel asked a group of young guys "What did you learn from all of this?" and they replied "Nothing" . ALWAYS learn from it. Team up with more experienced players and run with them. Pick up on what they do. Recognize when you get shot why it happened and what you could have done differently. Before too long, you will be one of the "elite" players. When that happens, make sure to pass your knowledge along to someone else. That is what this game is about. On that note, I would like to thank Diesel and Mother for teaching me, and my team, new stuff. With your permission, I would request to run with you anytime!
So sorry guys, not too much of an AAR. But I was not in the fights much and at times there was just not much going on. Can't wait to get to Fulda now and Can not wait till the next BIG game in SC. Ya;ll better turn out in force for that one!

I have to say that I learned...
When you're 200' away from a group of players (up the hill from them too), they will lob lots of BBs towards you. Said BBs will fall short of you repeatedly, and they will become very pissed and convinced that they hit you (and be very vocal about it). They then get even more pissed when you started smacking .36s in to their faces since that's all you can see to shoot at.
Such is life!

A lot of good comments that I'm not going to rehash. Had a great time and thanks to everyone involved as always, great job. Always enjoy having new faces especially teams on field. Seems to add a new dynamic.
Good job Xyz, Diesel and Mother. You guys kept the ball rolling. I was in and around Mile High most all day Saturday. Good job to all the teams holding it.

Wrong. I am not sure who told you that, but it is BS. Felix and I drove up there Friday and arrived right around 2PM. I spent hours setting up the field Friday, I placed all of the new captureable respawn flags, and around a dozen other items that came into play as the event unfolded. Not a single thing was left to be done when I went to bed Friday night. The reason the game started late was because we had huge groups of people show up late, and the field owner insisted they not be penalized. My hands were tied, as much as it pissed me off to prepare that much and still have a game start late.Romba wrote:The one thing I know about that was we were waiting for admins to place objectives. Yep, both of them did. I had to give them a few harsh words as well. That is not acceptable from anyone, which is why it was dealt with every time I saw it, which was way too often. This event drew a LOT of players who had never been to an airsoft game before, and as such the learning curve was very sharp for a lot of very young and brand new players that attended. In fact, there were almost no players from the established AOSC teams, it was almost entirely composed of established GA and TN teams with a few experienced SCers versus a huge group of people who play paintball at Redfox and wanted to give airsoft a try for the first time plus a few experienced SCers.idiot88 wrote:Even one of the young paintball refs took his mask off at the bunker.BKMrBlack wrote: I saw people without eye protection on the field a LOT.

A big thanks to all the players that made it such a great game, and thanks to those that helped make this possible including Felix, Green Ninja, Ociffer Action, and the three guys who work for Vaughn. Also, thanks to John and Bob for bringing the Deuce and a half and the HMMWV.
There were some medical incidents from the heat, but because I was always promptly notified by the commanders and other players, I was able to arrange transports off the field right away. Thanks for watching out for your fellow players everyone. I originally designed this scenario for a larger turnout, we had close to a hundred, but a few days before the game it looked to be nearly double that. A huge number of players dropped out at the last minute for some reason, but I think it was still a good game.
I am not sure how people are complaining about the respawns or objectives being too far away during Saturday... you do realize that those were the closest capturable respawns we have ever had at any game, right? I intentionally put the respawns within about three hundred feet of each other and the main objectives, meaning that unless you lost both respawns you never had to walk more than a few hundred feet to respawn. Without trees in the way, I could have shot one respawn flag from another. If I had put them any closer I would have had complaints about them being so close together that respawns were nigh on instantaneous. That being said, Sunday was more spaced out. The reason for this was that I originally had intended to make play close to and in the small area around Silverado city, but with no cloud cover and many players saying they did not want to fight in direct sunlight all day I decided that I would shift play into the shade, and though the distances were longer, people could take their time moving at a comfortable pace in the shade.
I am glad you liked Prime Minister Tweddle, I was hoping for an epic head hunting firefight, but the Alpha team actually waded to the "boat" through the pond! Bravo had been expecting them to come via land, so the firefight wasn't until after he had already successfully boarded the boat. Those of you who are used to my games may have noted that I took it easy on you, made the objectives near respawns (most of the time at least), and used my smaller props. The worst stuff was the bag of five million Hugh Laurie dollars, and the briefcase of cocaine. The rest were small and light like hardrives, laptops, .30 ammo cans, etc. No one had to move a weighted dummy, live human, 24" cube drop case that weighed 80 pounds, or any huge steel containers. I save the hard stuff for the colder weather
.
That is a good point concerning earlier starts on the second day, and I will do that the next time I have a similar event.
In short, I am glad you all came and hope you enjoyed yourself as much as the weather would allow. I hope that all of you who are able make it to Crisis in Dunundistan III, which will be sometime in Februaury/March. This will not be a game for the casual player however, so do not come unless you can handle a serious MilSim on a huge field with 50 hours of non stop objective based scenario airsoft.

i believe romba is refering to sunday in which case we got started late because a certain admin was still sleeping in his tent. and was placeing objectives on the field while all of alpha was at its starting point getting impatient. i wont mention any names here but cough dom cough
