Re: Wasteland - Post Apocalypse game Welford August 18th
I had a great time on Saturday. The scenario was good and different than usual. The firefights were plenty and from all ranges. My favorite parts of the day were the long range firefights I had with Ghost and holding the apartment with Mr. Marauder. The only part I was bummed about was that most of Bravo left during gameplay and the teams became severely unbalanced.

It was a fun game overall and out teams first time playing CQB. I want to apologize to bravo for all 6 of us leaving early but we tried to let people know we were going. We were up at 3am to leave and by 4 in the afternoon we were out of gas and looking at a 4+hr trip back to myrtle beach.
Overall I think it was a great scenerio, the scavenger hunting was fun. The fight for the staircase in the morning was pretty fun as well.
I do have one gripe though, someone really needs to take a bushwhacker to that field, it was seriously overgrown.

Many of the guys we ran into wanted us to post the game footage we captured. Please don't expect anything extravagant, since my brother and I are running budget camera's that we picked up on closeout for $35/ea. The link is posted below. Youtube is currently editing the film for "shakyness", but is still playable. I apologize if the quality is poor overall or in the meantime. Max setting is 480p, for some reason it doesn't pick the max setting without me doing so manually.

All in all, a fun weekend. I wish it wasn't so easy to get trapped in the spawn, but that's the downfall of a static spawn location and a close quarters map. There were a few un-sportsman like issues that came up, but I believe they were handled rather quickly.
From what I could tell as a player, the game went smoothly. I wish the scavenger hunt part was tallied and made public so we all knew how well we did finding the objective. Who knows, maybe it was and I just missed it. But I highly enjoyed having an scavenger type objective rather than a bomb location or team deathmatch approach. Very welcomed change of pace.
I feel like we walked in as strangers, with now only four games under our belts, and left a little less like one. Impressed by the maturity of the player base and the quick resolute decision making that kept issues with spawn trapping etc a misunderstanding instead of a fiasco.
One of my next purchases will likely be a grenade of some sort. That way I can coax Dom out of the apartment bathroom.

Re: Wasteland - Post Apocalypse game Welford August 18th
I had a wonderful time. I was very pleased with the play and had a ton of fun. I was very happy to see that a few players that I had spoken with at previous games about some (I think unintentional) issues seem to have resolved them as I had no issues with them, and none were reported to me. Thanks for being great sports. I personally had no issues with anyone, there was one reported to me that was resolved as well as possible.
I don't think it is fair to accuse anyone of leaving the game because their side was "losing". They deserve the benefit of the doubt. I know for sure that some of them left due to extremely long drives or other unavoidable circumstances. Let's not paint them with that brush without good reason to do so, it's not fair to those players.
As far as a non playing admin at a 30 person CQB game, not only would it be asking a bit much from people that already do a ton of free work, but it's pointless. There were several times in game that someone had a question and yelled "admin", and guess what I did? My job. I stopped playing and immediately found the person and solved the issue. Once it was a question about the boundaries (there was a non-playing observer that people kept asking questions of, unfortunately this caused some confusion as the player was not actually an admin and some of the answers he gave were misinformed) I stopped playing, came right over, and answered the question. Another time I was on the way back to respawn and heard some confusion about the respawns. Apparently there was a misunderstanding that the actual porch that was the respawn was an out of play area or something like that. I took several minutes to explain it as thoroughly as possible to those that were there, and as far as I could tell it cleared up the issue. Another time there was an issue between a couple players that needed my attention, I promptly did the same thing.
There is no reason to fix a system that isn't broken. No one ever had an issue that was raised and not promptly answered. It is extremely hard to find Reps that have the necessary qualities and time as it is, no need for us to not be able to enjoy playing as long as we can still do our job. If we force a Host Rep not to play at any game they host, even small simple ones like this, it means they either have no fun and won't want to do it, or they will need another incentive (like profit). I would rather keep it about the sport, not about money. Reps don't do this as a job, they do it as volunteers. So, unless you have an example of how something that was supposed to be done wasn't because we have Reps that play then it's a non-issue. I'd hate to see this turn into paintball were we have full time refs roaming the field at every game. Then people get the idea that if they don't see the round hit it doesn't count. Not only is it unnecessary (it would be trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist), but it would cause additional long term and short term problems. (*Edit: This was brought up ages ago, here's some context [reference my post on the last page] http://www.southcarolinaairsoft.com/php ... ing#p58298)
The combat footage was great, lots of action. I have never been featured in a video so much!
I just want to point out that something out of Garrett's control came up at the very last minute, and Cleric was told he had to host the game at 11PM on Friday night. Cleric is still getting into the swing of hosting games, and this was sprung on him due to circumstances. It was something that couldn't be helped. He is becoming more familiar with how to give a briefing and generally run games and next time he will have more than two seconds to prep for it.
Just to clear a couple things up, there are a few rules that, though "game specific" are almost universally applied to AOSC games and there was some confusion concerning them. The following are the standards that are normally applied, though it is up to the Hosting Rep at a particular game as these are, again, "game specific".
1: Heals do not normally have to be two handed. The standard is usually "making physical contact". However, you have to restart the count if you fire while healing. It is 30 seconds, as in 1 Mississippi, etc. If you can touch some part of them or their gear with some part of you, that generally counts as "healing".
2: The respawn area is NOT out of play. Freedom of movement is almost always maintained through respawns. However, since players of the faction to whom the respawn belongs can always respawn there at any time (after they have blead out) they can simply remove their deadrag (while making contact with whatever physical object is the respawn, in this case a porch) and immediately be in play. BBs that hit players that are already hit mean nothing, they do not restart blead out time or anything else. Dead players who have already blead out "do not exist" until they respawn. Enemy players can both move in/through respawns, and all players can shoot both into and out of respawns. In the AOSC we almost always place respawns in (or adjacent to) structures so that players can take cover prior to spawning in. If an enemy player is in your respawn, all you have to do is aim your gun at them with one hand while you remove your deadrag with the other and pull the trigger. It's that simple.

Re: Wasteland - Post Apocalypse game Welford August 18th
It was a really fun game. Starting both teams off right next to each other was a little odd, but hey, it worked out ok. If that mechanic is used in the future, I'd think putting the folders in a spot a little close (ex, in the warehouse in the open) would make life a lot more interesting. And/or start teams at their spawns and put the folders in the middle.
I am a fan of the added structures in the warehouse, now we need to get some cleanup done of those hazards in the structure (broken boards with nails, unsteady piles, rusty nails sticking out of walls, unsteady flooring on upper structures, et al). Then, we will truly have a kickass cqb field.
I've got 4 6mm diameter welts on my face from holding that door into the warehouse. testament to a fun game. Intense, but that's how cqb should be. next up on the purchase list, grenades and face pro.
Also, sadly, no kills with Thor's Hammer. Though there was that epic attempt at one during the assimilation game. Curse you for moving Dom!

Re: Wasteland - Post Apocalypse game Welford August 18th
For everyone who watched the video after I clicked the "shaky cam" option in Youtube, I sincerely apologize. It looked like Youtube added DUI goggles to my video. Even though I rather enjoyed watching the "drunk" version of the video, it's much better in it's original format.jsts ghost wrote:Good job with video.
I've rolled back that update and the original is now what is showing. Meaning all the waving text and weird smoothing, shifting of the image has been rolled back. Ghost, you should now be able to read the text and make much more sense of the video.
If you've watched it already, I again apologize, as Youtube's help sucked. I would encourage you to watch it again. The second time around should be more enjoyable.

I was just wondering how crappy the cam must be to make the text wavy like that lol.

Re: Wasteland - Post Apocalypse game Welford August 18th
Ok , here is my aar of the game , first let me state that this was my first game as a field host 100% Apple Pie was a tag team of me and Garrett . On that note Garrett had planned on being there to help me , but he had work situation come up , and he felt confident enough in me to let me have full reign , which I really do appreciate it . I am from the school of thought that you only prove how good you really are , when your put in the fire .
That being said anybody that wants to give me "constructive " critisiscm bout the game or anything I do , I welcome it and appreciate it and welcome it, because that is the only way I will grow and become better . So thank you to Ghost for his Honest write up and from here I can only grow as a Field host.
Now to the good stuff ! as a Host , thank you to everybody that came out , the game play was smooth and had no real issues . The issues that did happen are normal in a enviroment like CQB , at Wellford . The only negative thing I do have to say is after lunch Bravo 15 and Alpha had 15 players , bit not long after the game started ( say 30 min in) Bravo team had 5 players and alpha still around 15 . I understand people having to leave due to driving issues or what ever circumstances came up. I understand that, but I as a admin would have liked to know something about 10 diffrent players leaving. Once i noticed that things got a little lopsided. I as a admin donned a dead rag and went to those that wer still playing and asked if they wanted me to call the game and even the odds , and each one told me empthatically "NO, This is fun ! " So my hats off to those guys for having a great attitude ! That is what airsoft is all about ! Having fun and just shooting people !!
I did really get a kick out of watching Ghost not call his "hits" , but instead do a little dance and tempertantrum instead ! lol
Offically , the first game did go to alpha due to them having collecting the most found items , The second half went ton Alpha agian , but not due to Bravo not finding everything , but I belive due to them just wanting to just sling BB's , which was ok and good for some fun times .
SO things did not end perfect , but they did have a perfect ending ! BB's flying everwhere !
Thank you agian to every body that came out and made this game a succsess !!, It is you the players that make a game fun , all I did is write up a game idea , so my hats off to everyone that came out and played .
Now my turn as a player , I have been to Wellford 3 times and never have got a face shot ! I get them all the time at big open fields like the Airfarm, but this time during the end of the day , I got Hit right below the bottom lip ,while playing tag airsoft !! LOL my hats off to Syco ( I Think thats his call sign ) for that shot and hitting Dom in the nipple all in the same sequence! That was too much fun !
Then I had one of the best sequence kills ever for me , I shot at Ghost through the door jam !! Luck is all I can say ,then I went up to the window aand shot Dom - for some odd reason my BB's liked him all day long , then I stuck my head out the big door ,looking straight down Mr Maurader's barrel, but some how he switched to semi and not full auto , and missed his first shot ,but then he got my first shot . That was w weird but wonderful sequence to go thru !
Agian Thank you to all the players who came out !! I will try to make my games as different and fun as possible as long as I have you continued support !

See guys! I'm not a bot!
Cleric did a great job running the game. I was a little worried how the scavenger hunt thing would turn out, but it was awesome. The field was great, if it did have a few safety issues, and it was the most honorable game I've seen or heard of. The only issue I saw with hit calling was from my brother, who says he pegged a guy and the guy hid, and my dad, who had the same issue. However, I had no such issues.
It was nice to meet some people, and prove my existence. It's looking like Fulda may be my next game, but I would like to hit one in September.
On another note, I had to leave due to sickness. I did not drink on the field all morning, and then drank multiple bottles of water at lunch, turning my stomach against me. I stayed back at lunch break, telling my dad and brother to go and play for a while, and after around fifteen minutes I said what the heck, and grabbed my shotgun and got back out there. After about fifteen minutes of playing we had to leave though, because my mom had taken my sisters to the zoo but forgot her house key. I hope to see you guys again soon!
