OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
I would like to thank everyone who came out to the field today. Both teams had great numbers and everyone had a great time out there.

Re: OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
As a person trying to run a field. This is relevent.
Now other than the camo issue I think it went well. there was a 20 minute hold up in the morning due to individuals trying to perfect thier loadout at last minute. and I "think" there was a complaint about a hour and a half break for lunch.
Gameplay went well, there where a few back and forths that I saw but I didnt see anything that wasnt resolved by the individuals in question. I think overall the field attitude was great between all 60 players.
The inclusion of the new potta potty was a complete success I believe. Especially considering there was a complaint about those for the Dec 1st game.
Things where getting hot at the village until the tan team spawn was moved to give the green team a chance. (This was breifed in the morning brief to facilitate respawning in a contested area) and the new respawn was handled in a way to prevent constant spawn camping while giving the green team the advantage that they had fought for.
Rentals went well, we heard zero compaints about the rifles we supplied.
Overall that was one of the funnest operations I have held out at the swamp. Stand-by for the video release.
I would love to have balanced camos for each team to avoid the arm bands but this weekend was a bad indicator.fallout11 wrote:Old man rant:
Once (~7-8 years ago), green was everywhere, and tan was hard to find. 'Team America', bluefor, and all the wanna-be ubers wore green, and tan was relegated to walk-ons, newbies, and evil bad guy players (opfor/terrorists/whatever). Now of course the reverse is true. The day will soon be here when at any given event, in order to have balanced sides, it will be multicam vs. everyone else. A few years later, armbands will be required to distinguish the first tan team from the other tan team.....
Good luck with the event and have fun. Sorry I was not able to make this one.

Re: OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
Overall I had a great time at this event. This was my first time on this field and I really enjoyed it, though I hate to see how truly swampy it gets during the summer.
I'm always pretty pessimistic in my after action reports, so I'll go ahead and say the positives.
I had a ton of fun. There were a good number of people present for the game and it was a pretty simple Op. I really like charity games because even if don't have any fun I've more than gotten my money's worth.
The majority of players I interacted with had a great attitudes and played completely fairly. I'd encourage them to make it to some more games and see the other fields around the state.
Now down to brass tacs i guess:
1) Camo's were unbalanced. No one's fault, but its always a shame. I do appreciate the admin staff dividing everyone up in a way that they could still play with the people they showed up with.
However a lot of people on tan were wearing brown/woodland colored hoodies, which i wouldnt really consider to be proper bravo camo. But seeing as I wore Multicam and was on Alpha, it didn't much matter.
2) Rules seemed really inconsistently reinforced.
Fighting that went on in the village was supposed to be semi only and under 360 fps. I can't speak to the guns that got used within the village limits, but there was a lot of full auto skirmishing going on very much within the village limits.
3) I won't bring up the complaint that comes around almost every game: "No one called hits", but rather that no one did it very well. I'd never played with a lot of the people present and they didn't seem to understand that calling the hit is for the person who shot you; not for yourself.
Whenever i got a kill it seemed that i would see a slight hand wave and then the person would disappear. I don't think deadrags were a field regulation so that didn't bother me at all, but when you get taken out you need to make sure people know or they WILL keep shooting you.
There were several times i didnt even know my own teammates were dead because they whimpered their call and then laid down. I assumed they were just hunkering down from heavy fire.
I heard a lot of specific complaints about a guy wearing an american flag bandana that a lot of people assumed was a deadrag. Like i said i don't think deadrags were field requirement but that was a bit confusing.
4) There should have been a lot more available spawns. Capturable or not. Players are a lot more likely to brush off a hit when they know they have to walk 300 yards just to respawn. There are a few well placed structures on the field and those really would have made good positions for respawns all throughout the day.
Towards the end of the day Bravo spawn was moved from the village to a base made up of pallets. As soon as we heard this we parked in positions around this base in anticipation of bravo respawning here. We thought getting the jump on these guys respawning would be ok, but we were told otherwise after taking out a small group that respawned. Having more available spawns could really have helped remedy this problem.
All things said it was a fun game for a good cause, very glad I went.

Re: OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
SOCOM/IV brought a lot of new people with us to this game. They had never played and wore as close to Tan as they had. I'm not going to play favorites or say that my team was always doing what they were supposed to, but here are a couple of things that I saw, heard, but I will take blame for most of the confusion that was caused by our noobs.
First, the confusion in Hoboken: The rule was changed by the field manager, Ron, as he felt it was unfair that those defending inside Hoboken could only shoot semi at those that were firing auto into Hoboken. He changed it to full auto out UNTIL someone from Green stepped foot inside the village then both sides had to go into semi. Which I see as absolutely fair for both sides.
Secondly, the game went really well up til lunch. I had no problem with SOCOM/IV calling hits or anyone on Alpha calling hits. After lunch, it completely changed unfortunately. Blind firing became rampant and people were not calling hits so others decided not to call hits either. I do not condone that my team did it, but I can understand why some of them did. My personal experience with this was with some kids I hadn't seen on my last trip to the Swamp and I knew they weren't Gold team members or Gambler, so I don't know if they are regulars or not, but when I can see and/or hear the shot hit you, you've got to call it. The worst was when I had snuck up behind several Alpha in the woods just outside the Hotel in Hoboken. I had to put 4-5 bursts from less than 25 feet away into this one kid's back before he even thought about calling his hit. And what really pissed me off about it was the fact he had to stop and look around and see me aiming at his face before he would call it. Maybe I just expect too much from others by comparing them to myself in that situation. I hope Ron institutes the "friendly fire is not friendly" rule, as it would stop most of the "Oh, I don't think anyone will notice..." or the "Let me look around and my semi observant teammate might see me looking at the guy who snuck up on us and shot me before I call my hit" junk. Then coming over the slight hill I had the drop on another guy, heard hit get hit twice before his buddy shot me. I called my hit, but alas, he must of had the Juggernaut perk equipped, I knew I should of equipped Stopping power instead of Cold blooded.
Thirdly, the just unsportsmanlike conduct of the younger players on alpha, cussing and name calling some of the older members we brought down, probably pushed at least one person not to come back out. I can not speak for SOCOM/IV's conduct as I didn't hear anything, but I wasn't around every member either. If someone was offended by something that a member or guest of SOCOM/IV said, I apologize on behalf of the team as CO, for ultimately I'm responsible for the actions of my team.
Also, Dead men tell no tales to live players, nor do they move on their own. I had someone get upset with me because I would not move after I had been hit and I pulled my dead rag telling me he was going to continue to shoot me unless I moved, which didn't happen after a short discussion. The only time dead men move is either 1) Their bleed out time has expired and are heading back to respawn or 2) They are being dragged to safety so that they can be medic'd.
Yes, more respawns, or back to the respawn at a friendly and non-contested base, would have made things a lot easier towards the end and would have given us a decent really point at say Charleston to make a decently effective riposte. As for the Spawn camping... just don't do it... it's unsportsmanlike and it ruins the game for people. I rather enjoyed the holding action that we had going between Charleston and Umm.. Dorchester/Abandoned Fort I think it was until lunch was called. Neither side could advance and the action was pretty intense, especially when the above conversation about dead men occurred.
Overall, though, I had a great time, and I've even converted my fiancee into an airsoft addict, so good job everyone.

Re: OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
I knew a lot of the kids were new, the whole "not quite right" camo didnt bother me much at all. If the newer guys enjoyed themselves I hope they'll invest in some full camo BDUs or something. Well worth the money.
The only incident I had with full auto was when i moved into the village some time after lunch. I got up to the first bits of cover and was still being fired at in full auto; if I'm going to be fired at in full auto I'm certainly responding with the same.
As for changing rules mid game; this is something that bugs me a lot at AOSC games because i see it happen a good bit. I'd urge field owners running their own games to greatly think out their rules before the game because you can never inform all players on the field of off the hip rule changes (I had no idea the semi/full auto rules had changed).
I'm glad you didn't catch any Gold members shurgging hits or anything. The newer kids on Bravo were very sportsmanlike, i hate to hear that alpha guys werent so much.

Re: OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
I had fun using my M14, a little different from the L85, but I did really enjoy using it.
Bald Eagle, Bishop, and I were walking up the left side of the field in the morning, the part between the bird house and the parking lot. We encountered two "Alpha" only to figure out they though Alpha was tan, and bravo was green. We called a truce, backed up a few hundred feet each, and pretended like that never happened. Upon moving up, we ran into them again, this time aware that they are enemies. Bishop and I bunkered down with Bald Eagle 50ft behind us. We watched as the two opponents walked slowly through the woods. Unknowningly to us, Bishop was aiming at the first one, and I kept my sights on the second one. As soon as they saw us they let off a burst, to which Bishop and I took as a sign to shoot, and we took both of them out at the exact same time. It couldn't have been a better take down of the two opponents, hitting them at the exact same time.

Re: OP Greedy Grinch - The Swamp Dec 8 2012
I am as referred here on comments as Ron from ppl that know me from the Swamp, and one of the Admins at the game. I am also the Operations Mang. at the Swamp, and a Admin.
My son and I come from a very well respected field from Upstate NY where we played for 4 years.
The CQB Village has been my and a few others baby for last few months. It runs under a set of rules that we used in NY and never had a safety issue, and many here are not use to yet.
Our FPS in The Village is 360 and less with No MED…tags tell us what is allowed and not from Crono. Normally there would have been No MED and Full auto until a building was breached, then all weapons have to be on Semi. SOCOM has played with us for these games and they knew the rules.
With that said…there were a lot of new players to The Swamp…so we decided that Semi would work best and it did not get to some of our ppl…that will not happen again.
Rules not enforced equally…not acceptable at our field and never will be. Our Admins DO NOT PLAY for a reason. I was in the Village and lower half of the field as the Admin…don’t recall not addressing any issue I was called on, and did not hear anything from the other field Admin.
No CALL’s…I won’t even go there after being at my first OP in NC. This is a problem and always will be for the new players that have not been in the heat of battles….nothing we can do but shoot then till they call it.
Respawn…we might have dropped the ball on that one…will address it better next game.
Camo…that is what everyone was wearing…my son and I always bring green and brown Shemagh’s.
In all, I don’t see any major complaints for a new field. We are striving to be the best field in SC and input good or negative we look at and see what we can do to make the next game better.
Again thanks for everyone coming. We are currently working a few discrepancies on The Swamps rules and the AOSC rules to have joint game.
