Hunger Games: SQA 5/25/13
Evening everyone!
Thought I'd go ahead and kick the after action thread off.
Now I've been told I'm normally a pretty sour guy in my AAR's, but for once I think you'll find that's not the case.
Today's game went great, at least in my opinion. For those who weren't here or paid zero attention during the day, we ran 4 scenarios of "Capture the VIP". Two at Trenches and Two between Crossroads and Radar Tower (Sector 1).
The action at the trenches was a ton of fun, but I will pick on players here. If you show up to play airsoft you shouldn't be afraid to get shot! If you've got the gun for it (0 or 20 ft MED) then you shouldn't be skiddish about seriously pushing the field of play. Getting shot in real life may be a big deal, but a bb won't kill you.
Always be active and aware, try to actively find out where the enemy is and communicate that with your teammates. Furthermore, MEDIC! If you're near someone who has died, be a pal and heal them up!! Cover fire can be just as effective of a shield as the tree you're cowering behind. /rant
The next two scenarios were meh. Not anyone's fault. That area of the SQA field is heavy in brush, a problem we're well aware of. Short of handing everyone a machete, there's not much that can be done besides just trying to get some foot traffic on it. I'm interested to see what people say about this part of the day, as the fight was literally an uphill battle.
No VIP's were ever successfully captured during the day, though Bravo made a strong push in the second trenches game. A ton of fun for me.
Lastly I'll just pat everyone on the back who had a hand in moving the morning along smoothly. Thanks to the AOSC rep Cleric for being on time and ready-to-go, and thanks to the field owners Kory and David Escue for making sure registration and chrono went smoothly.
Solid fun day of airsoft.

Great game all around
Hated the Radar Tower.. I EVEN TRIED CALLING IN A PREDATOR MISSILE!
And the Woman had a lot of fun as well. Honestly, I think she has more of the operator fever for killing alpha than I do.

Had a great time being VIP, but felt unloved because no body cared enough to come and take me
. the game was a lot of fun when I got to my M4, but after that it sucked (not the game) ALL of my guns broke. My pistol wouldn't fire or release the mag, my L96 lost a VERY important screw and had about 4 bbs rack inside of it, and my M4's connector came unconnected deep in the gun.

THE GREATEST WARRIOR WHO EVER LIVED!!!!

Everyone in my group had a blast. It was a fun time and we really enjoyed it. Just sad we got tired so fast and left early. It was so fun. And I got some awesome long range kills, so definitely a bonus. Loved the style, a lot less walking around. More action and more targets.

I must say, I do think handing everyone a machete would be very interesting.... Extra points for getting a kill with it.

This was pretty good. The sand in the trenches kept jamming peoples gun's up but that was no big problem. The first two games were really good but the radar did have thick brush. That was fine for me though because thats more of a real world enviroment. overall it was really fun flanking alpha in the second and third games. scored alot of kills there.

Re: Hunger Games: SQA 5/25/13
That was a fun game.
Early on my friend and I went on our little sniper missions, somewhat evading patrols and what not. My new TM M14 did pretty good, gotta clean the mid caps though. My sniper got into position on the trenches looking from the woods, and he made two headshots on two Bravo talking to each other. Then we went farther back, and Kory and the rest of Gold Team "Oh look we were taking a piss and found a sniper team lets go get them"
Needless to say we were taken out, but a spray of bbs from the M14 held them off a little bit, but not enough. After that we started the second part of the game, where this time I had the bolt action, and the real Bravo hunting began.....
We were defending the radar tower, and I decided to go wreck havoc in the heavily wooded area in front of the Radar Tower. I never have had as much fun as I did yesterday in those woods with that bolty, shooting people and they have no idea where anything comes from. Much thanks to the kid in black (not Luke) who parlayed me near Bravo HQ, we kinda had a......moment which would've been bad. And last thanks to Cleric for the game, the Escues, and Kory's mom for the extra chips.
Bishop, sorry I shot you twice, I saw someone go behind you, apologies.
Had a retard moment, Dom remembers, was hilarious.
Tried walking into the Radar Tower when Bravo held it, all chilax and shiz, was met with bbs.
And last to Task Force 1 who held the Radar Tower for Alpha during the first part, and all the yelling and screaming and racist comments they yelled at Bravo. My team is an odd bunch.

I had fun, lots of kills. I lost my rear sight and the little circle thingy that goes on the back of the selector switch. If anyone found them please return them to me, they look like this.

The first two rounds were great. That part of the field has great counterplay, but once the game went innawoods, it kind of bogged down. All and all I had an excellent time.
Also: Sorry to you alpha guys that I lit up from so close in game two in the woods. I had no med and you guys were about ambush our flank.

Tactical nothing, nothing is tactical.
Re: Hunger Games: SQA 5/25/13
Cleric changed up the norm for a large wooded field, and made it more similar to the format at RF or PBC. In the heat of the summer, this keeps the action concentrated and reduces fatigue. It was non-stop fun all day. It was a nice break from long range maneuver and spread out objectives at a large field. Things went remarkably smoothly all 'round, from start to finish. Kudos to Cleric, the Escues, and the Gold Team Elves (Mr. Escue's little helpers).
I ran Bravo, and started off with Hoss, Gerb, and Kraminator in the trenches at the bottom of the road down from the hill. Alpha discovered, after a few dozen casualties, that trying to run down the hill towards us with no cover was suicide; so they stopped doing it. This was very fortunate for us, because the battery I thought was charged was not, and Hoss's gun jammed badly or something. We fell back, I borrowed a battery from Cleric and Hoss had to head back to the cars. Alpha started to gain more ground, and it was push and pull for a while. Eventually I hit the treeline on Alphas side with ibeezthecapn, his buds, Gerb, and Kram. We cleared out the treeline while Murphy and a few guys assaulted the three trench networks near us. After he led the suicide charges, I noted where they got shot from and charged them from the treeline, catching them off guard in their victorious repulsion of Murphy. This formula worked very well, though sadly many faces were hosed with BBs (because that's all I could see).
The second game we switched sides, so Felix, Woman, Gerb, Hoss, Gambler, Kraminator, and I all went way around and snuck up behind their rear trench flag, in the woods. We went up to the edge of the woods, then I opened up on a group of guys in the open, and we all opened fire. I got hit, Kram healed me, Hoss killed most of the guys higher up on the border in the brush piles, and Kram and I cleared the trench. The other guys were further back I think, not sure though. Kram rushed in to flip the flag while Hoss and I covered, but Hoss got hit. The one guy still alive in range finally hit Kram while he tried to untangle the flag. Then Felix rushed in out of nowhere and tried to flip it, but got shot by the same guy I think. I still had most of the area covered, and the guy who had shot them, from what I could tell, had a poor FOV because he took forever to hit them. This whole time I had been behind this big pile of logs, making it hard to rush in, so I had been yelling and screaming for all of Bravo to advance while we had most of them wiped out. Finally a few people came up, but they walked casually instead of running into the trench, so they got shot. No other Bravo around were alive, so I climbed over the big pile of logs to go flip the flag and medic, and just then Garrett led a horde of respawned Alpha up from the rear, they shot me and rushed back into the brush and trenches. C'est la vie. After we respawned, we pushed them back by brute force, frontally, until they were all the way back at their HQ. We rushed into the woods, pushing further, so I quietly made my way back behind their HQ and ambushed a FT in the woods just before the game was called.
The area we used after lunch was great, you nansy pansies should stop complaining about thick brush/woods
. I had a fantastic time in both of those second two games, but especially the first one right after lunch. I found a great spot just over the "hump" about 75ft behind the radar tower and hung out there the whole game (though it took the first ten-fifteen minutes to get there). Lots of Alpha tried to climb the hump and weed us out, and eventually they did kill everyone else up there. By that time though, they had taken so many casualties trying to get over that hump and up the hill, they gave up and refused to move above it. Aside from the advantage against the guys poking/climbing over that hump, my position also allowed me to shoot directly into the rear of any Alpha on the front wall of the base, or crossing through the center. Towards the end of the game they wouldn't cross in the center of put anyone behind the front wall anymore. This negation of movement within the fort hopefully aided the other attackers, though clearly not enough. When Cleric called two minutes left, I heard some guys coming down the hill behind me. I rolled over and waited for them, as they came down, they were in shadows, so I couldn't ID their patterns, and being colorblind, I couldn't figure out what faction they were on. They got about fifteen feet or so in front of me before they saw me lying in the brush aiming at them, and one said "What faction are you on?", so I said "What faction are YOU on?", he said "Alpha", I opened fire. I hit one, maybe two, and they dropped, but so did my ROF, so I yelled out that my battery was dead so I was going to stand up with my deadrag on. I walked into the base just as the game was called, they were packed in there like sardines, but they had held it.
The next (last) game we defended the radar tower, and we all knew how it worked. I went up to the same spot I had been in the last game, and laid down. Two other guys hid just over the hump, near me, and two more went another hundred feet up the hill and hid. After about 30 minutes of napping, 8-10 Alpha came down the hill to the bases rear (but where we were facing). They killed the top two guys, and came down on me, about 4-5 of them 20-40 ft in my front, and 4-5 of them 15-30 ft to my left. I listened to them talk for a while, and still had no visual because we were all in thick brush, and I was very low. I knew I couldn't survive, but I could waste a few of their heals and maybe scare them a bit. I got a visual on one, opened up on him, and then just swept back and forth firing in their directions. A hail of fire swept over me, and this continued for a solid fifteen or twenty seconds. They stopped, I shot one more, then they opened up again and hit me. After I blead out and went to respawn, I planned to advance up the hill on their flank, but our two guys below the hump engaged them some more, and all but two of them simply left. The two that stayed were quiet for the most part. A full squad had put themselves in the single most advantageous position on the field to affect and execute the overrunning of our base, and they abandoned it. Oh well, good luck for us. So, I went down on our left flank in the valley and cleared out what was left of the group that was with Marpat, then cleared the road, and stuck Gerb and another guy behind a log to guard the road. I went back up to the base, turns out about six Alpha had made it right up against the right wall, but were already dead. I shot one further back in the woods (he may have already been dead though, not sure) and waited on the game to be called about a minute later.
I noticed people getting jams from the dirt too. I also noticed that these were the people laying their guns down in it, shoving their barrels in it, etc. Remember that these are not real steal Kalashnikovs, they are somewhat fragile and have lots of small moving parts. If you lay them in dust, set them down on the ground, point your barrel at walls and accidentally brush them on it, set your mags in dirt, etc., you will have problems. Work on developing the same spacial sense with your gun that you have with your body and avoid handling it in a way that allows junk to get in places it shouldn't be. If you do that, you'll have no problems.

Re: Hunger Games: SQA 5/25/13
Dom is absolutely right about the guns/dirt situation. As someone who's been playing on the Escue's field nearly 10 years I've found a quality solution.
Wait for it...
Don't put your gun in the dirt. Saw a lot of people jumping into trenches gun first, or resting their barrel on the dirtbanks. So long as you hold it up while you jump in, and keep it pointing up while you're not shooting it's usually not a problem. I've filled many a barrel with sand though.

Re: Hunger Games: SQA 5/25/13
had fun at this game most of my comments have been expressed already, sand was taking alot of weapons out of play and while some of it could have been avoided by knowing where your weapon is pointing, im glad that i brought my unjamming rod out to the field as multiple people were able to save a walk back to the cars. The tower was intense fighting but the defenders have the advantage. it was fun to be able to sling some plastic with players i have not seen in a while and the weather was great for summer.

I had a lot of fun @ that game...next time however, I will bring my kwa m9 ptp for the foliage was quite thick and visiblity was low as well. All in all great field, great people, great airsoft.
