Dirty Mags

Post by Doublewolf » Wed Jan 19, 2011 6:45 pm

I noticed that my midcaps get dirt in them during games sometimes. The dirt might get on the bbs, and that couldn't be good for the gun. Should I try to wash out the mags? If so, how would I go about doing that? Pull the spring out, brush it off, and put it back?

Add a little compressed air in there and you've got a good plan.  I usually do this at least twice a year dependin on what conditions I'm playing in.

plastic or metal? if metal, you can take them apart and clean them.  I will warn you that it is a pain in the arse though. those follower springs are hella long and have a bad attitude.

Plastic MAG midcaps. You can unscrew the thingy on the bottom and take the spring out. I'll probably do that. I'll clean it out and put it back.

*winces* be careful with that. those caps tend to be quite stubborn, and it is very easy to strip them out

it's a 1/4 turn with a coin... biggest issue is to keep your hand over it so the spring doesn't throw the cap across the room.

do not under any circumstances use a spray graphite... it will melt the plastic, let's not talk about how I know that.  plain compressed air or maybe a little silicone if you're finding the springs are catching

I took a little piece of a cotton ball and put it in the bottom of the mag then put the spring back in. The spring pushed the cotton all the way to the loading hole and I plucked it out with tweezers. Cleaned my stuff out nicely. On thing though. Don't over oil your mags. If you oil them, put some BB's in a plastic bag or speed loader, put some silicone oil on them, and load them into the mag. Then you can take them out of the mag and your mag is oiled. You can use the same BB's in all of your mags but don't shoot them in your gun and for the love of God don't just squirt oil into your mags. It makes all of the BB's that you put in the mag all greasy and they do not feed well or shoot well.
