While the chamber and nozzle are technically proprietary for the reason you noted (ridge and slot thing), replacing the airnozzle with a standard one requires no mod, and replacing the hopup chamber merely requires that you either replace the nozzle as well, or take five minutes to dremel off that ridge on the nozzle. I have done all of the above without incident. While I can not recall a complete list of all the buckings I have installed in KWAs, I can say that I have yet to run into one that would not fit. That's not to say that I haven't had some difficult ones though.
