M14 DMR

Post by Felix » Sat Jul 02, 2011 11:28 am

I have recently aquired a M14 with some spare parts that I hope to turn into a DMR. I have never before ventured into a gearbox at all.. so im hoping that someone could give me a pointer or two on the parts Im thinking of ordering. The gun is a G&G M14, which comes with the 6.03 already inside. Has a Firefox 11.1 lipo already installed. The spare parts are a 300% Element high torque tune up kit (Three gears, shims, and an orange piston) and a Prometheus M150 non-linear spring. So all i really need is a new short motor, cylinder+head, piston head, and a spring guide, right?

These are the pieces i found that I thought would be good.

Look in to SHS internals; you can get a piston head nearly identical to that one for something like $10 from "Airsoft Evolutions" on ebay.

Nope, V7. Not an easy gearbox to learn on.

V4s are PSG-1 gearboxes and are 19 teeth pistons, don't get those.

+1 for SHS pistons. They also make great motors.

Second, the G&G gearbox is a hybrid gearbox, and does not have a V7 cylinder head. You will need the G&G M14 cylinder head set found at ASGI to get a cylinder head that fits.

And, I don't suggest a metal piston head, imo, the stock G&G cylinder head is just fine and will hold up to the M150.

The one piston i got with it has 16? 4 metal?

And so your saying not to buy a cylinder head altogether and use the stock one?

Alright, I don't think that tappet plate will work, and I don't think you'll need one, the stock tappet plate should be fine.

The piston head, again, I suggest a polycarb piston head, possibly even the stock piston head. But that one will work, if that is the one you are set on.

Again, the Air nozzle may not work, G&G guns are special, I believe it's an AUG length, I however just purchased a different set of air nozzles and changed out the o-rings.

The cylinder and spring guide are fine. And I think the motor will be fine with those gears.

Thank you again Kory, first post has been edited.

And your right, the only tappet plate thatll work is the stock one. Same with Air nozzle, has to be an aug style i think.

these guns suck to get down into the gearbox the first time. you need like the tiniest alan wrench ever, that you cannot get locally, even from a hobby shop... also there is a pin that you have to knock out on the side that refuses to budge. I belive i just ended up permanently removing both of those on the last one i worked on (aka broke them free). it also sucks to squeeze a m150 into the gearbox because you can't get your finger right on the side of the cylinder to keep it from kicking up as you try to close the top half of the gearbox shell.

and, on the last one i worked on, i managed to give it a disease called "compression issues for life" (aka, it still has compression issues) (talk to walker/theboss62)

LOL nah Luke it doesn't have compression problems for life... hopefully. Great gun and agree with Stephen on SHS. It does kinda suck to break down.
