Avocado Mosfet Problem
Avocado Mosfet Problem
Alright, so after waiting a month for it to come in, this was at my doorstep today: http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?products_id=36749
Since all of my guns use XT60 connectors, the first thing I did was install a pair. When I plugged it into my VFC Scar-H ssr (using a 20c 2200 mah 7.4v lipo battery), the fist thing it did was blow up... There was just a bright light, and then smoke. Unfortunatly, since i modded it, I doubt I can get my $40 back. But does anyone know what happened or how to fix it?

Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
You probably soldered the XT60s on backwards. If so, it's probably safe to say the entire thing is fried.

Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
That was my first thought. But after checking, I soldered correctly. Red to positive, and black to negative.
Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
Do you have the positive wire on the "flat" side of the connector?

Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
Yes, on both of them, because thats where the + is. I also made sure not to mix up the male and female connectors.

Heat from soldering melt the connections together on the actual circuit board?

No, I figured out what happened.Skywalker wrote:Heat from soldering melt the connections together on the actual circuit board?
Ok, so I buy all of my lipo batteries with XT60 connectors pre-installed. Unfortunatly, they are all male connectors, instead of the typical female connectors. So i fixed the problem by changing all of the connectors in my gun from male to female. So I should have installed the connectors backwards on the mosfet because of this change. So it was basically like installing the mosfet backwards, so it blew up.

You actually get batteries with male connectors on them? WTF... >.<
I've seen a lipo arc and start smoldering because of a male connector on it, and that scares me just thinking about it. And since then I ALWAYS put the female connectors on the batteries just to avoid it, even in NiMHs.

Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
Which connector belongs on your battery depends entirely on the connector. For Deans and Tamiyas, female. For XT60s and many other connectors, male. The important thing is making sure you can easily short the terminals against eachother.

Sorry to hear you lost that money, but If you are going to buy a MOSFET, at least buy one that actually functions as such.

Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
I couldn't care less if it actually performs like a MOSFET, since the gun I was going to put it in already has one. I just wanted a 3 round burst, because I tend to fire my guns like support weapons, so ammo was getting to expensive.Dominum wrote:Sorry to hear you lost that money, but If you are going to buy a MOSFET, at least buy one that actually functions as such.

Re: Avocado Mosfet Problem
I don't know what you're smoking. Red has always been positive, and black has always been negative. He didn't solder it in backwards per se, but connected it reversed from the way it should be. Power was flowing in the output, and out of the input.

Sorry, my facts are wrong. My B. And btw, it's some pretty good stuff.
