Changing Pinion Gear

Post by Muff-in » Sat May 05, 2012 8:58 pm

My pinion gear is getting pretty beat up and I believe I need to change it soon. What would be the best way to go about changing these things? It isn't the one that has a grub screw. I have seen tools that make it easy but they are in the ~$40 range and I could just by a new motor at that price. Also, what pinion gear would you guys recommend? I ordered a Systema pinion gear and I'm not sure if it will fit my motor as it says they were made for the magnum motors.

Systema pinion gears suck... really, they're horrible. The fact they even have to sell Magnum-specific gears should tell you something. :\

Prometheus makes hardened pinion gears, but they are also expensive. I believe SHS sells a very affordable replacement.

Now, that aside. You can install and remove them without that tool, but it is a pain. They're pressed onto the driveshaft of the motor. You have to be careful not to pull/push the shaft out of the motor, which is what that tool is designed to avoid.
