You know how if you take a bolt action, and pump the bolt 3 times then you shoot 3 bbs? Same idea

Yeah, but then you have three bbs sitting in the barrel, if you point the gun down, 2 of them should fall out, and then you have one bb flying at 600fps or something. Besides, even like this, you still have one bb that goes hard and true, while the others just fly away, the energy is not spread evenly from bb to bb. One bb hits hard while the others just float away. That's why I'm support a triple barrel idea, so that the energy will be evenly distributed between three bbs.

the simple answer to that starfolder is move the hop up nub down 30mm (for 5bb shotgun). the nub holds the bbs in, provides decently equal hop to each bb, but not perfect, so each bb flies a bit differently, giving it a shotgun spread

He has a point though. Only one bb is trying to stay on track, the others are just getting knocked out of the way

Yeah, cause I've done it before, not moving the hop up, but shooting more than one bb out of the barrel. Ever shot two bbs at the same time, one bb fires meh, the other almost falls out of the barrel, even if they all have hop, they will all be traveling at different speeds when they leave the barrel.

Having been inside of a tri shot I can tell you this won't work as well as you think it will. They have three separate of everything, and the tri-piston has no teeth. You would have to custom machine everything from scratch to do that. The triple tappet nub n the sector gear is by far the best method of doing this, and should work as long as you don't point the barrel down between shots.
