Mechanical pre-cocking
Re: Mechanical pre-cocking
I could have sworn the CAs I've opened all had 18, let me go check...

You are absolutely right, I miscounted. All extended pistons and sector gears do indeed have 19 teeth. Forget my previous post then, apparently I can't count LOL.

If I started the thread, is it ok that I didn't find it by Googling first?

Re: Mechanical pre-cocking
ARES did it right by putting a pre cocking system in their l85's

Re: Mechanical pre-cocking
Maybe I'm just unclear of exactly what pre-cocking is, but I'm pretty sure my ARES l85 AFV has is. The first shot on semi, it winds up. Then, the following shots have an instantaneous trigger response, even with a 600 mah 8.4v. After firing, it has a spring release latch, you push the selector switch past below the full auto function, and you can clearly hear it unwind. Also, keep in mind the gun uses a standard 15 tooth piston.

Bleh, I feel like we've had this conversation before. Are you going to the Redfox game or the SQA game coming up?Stomper87 wrote:Maybe I'm just unclear of exactly what pre-cocking is, but I'm pretty sure my ARES l85 AFV has is. Yes, I'll be at the SQA game March 16. Of course I'd like for you to check the gun out, I sold my ICS l85 because I just like this one so much better! Also, I run it off of an 11.1 15c and still seems to "pre-cock".Star_folder wrote:Bleh, I feel like we've had this conversation before. And the convo we had about pre-cocking for it, was when I thought it used a 19 tooth piston.

Alright, find me, or I'll try to find you. I need to know.... Ok, mostly I'm just super curious.

Re: Mechanical pre-cocking
I'm sure I can find you, everyone in the AOSC know who you are haha. And I hope I can give ARES a better reputation, for I firmly believe their m4's are among the top three best m4's out there, along with Lonex and Redfire. I'm also installing an m135 spring in the l85 tomorrow, I hope that won't affect anything, as far as the pre-cocking goes.
Re: Mechanical pre-cocking
So an update on my l85... So I recently installed a Prometheus m135 spring in it, and now it's "pre-cocking" function is gone. I don't know why, it was ran off of an m100-110 when I got it. I also changed out the piston, piston head, and added sorbo, although I doubt that would change anything. On another note, the sector gear is strange... On the bottom, it has 2 "arrows" pointing in different directions, rather than one big "arrow" on the bottom of most senator gears.

Ah, you were getting overspin with the M100, basically precocking the gun. I see.Stomper87 wrote:So an update on my l85... I have no explanation for the "arrows" on your sector gear though.

Re: Mechanical pre-cocking
He is apparently talking about the part the engages the cutoff lever. Stomper, is one of them higher than the other on the axle? If they are both at the same height, they would both engage the cutoff lever, and those only exist on double sector gears. If, however, the second "arrow" is set up in the gear where it is flush with the bottom teeth, and thus cannot engage the cutoff lever, that is simply a design element. It serves no actual function other than possibly "balance", but that wouldn't make much sense seeing as the teeth throw off the center of gravity anyway. But yes, there are sectors gears like that, for whatever reason. Here's an example I found of what I think you are reffering to:

But yeah, for all intents and purposes, it is pointless.
