Upgrading KWA SR12

Post by berbinator » Thu Nov 18, 2010 5:50 pm

Ok so first off, before I get yelled at about there being a topic about this already I have already read this http://www.southcarolinaairsoft.com/forums/http://www.southcarolinaairsoft.com/newforums/viewtopic.php?p=8293#p8293

but anywho as the topic states I'm in the market for a KWA SR12 and I'm looking at turning it into a dmr.  As such here is the list of things I have in mind

promethius 6.03 stainless steel TBB

Systema magnum motor (long type)

Bravo Helical ultra torque gears

systema m150 spring

Now that is all the parts I know for sure I'll need.  Now for the questions none of which were really answered in the linked post.
1) with the new KWA reinforced gearboxes would I Still need a better gearbox?

2) I've heard that the piston is fairly decent on the newest gen KWA, would I need to replace that as well?

3) what would be the ideal hopup to use in this situation?  I have read that KWAs don't take allot of the aftermarket hopups.

Any insight would be appreciated :)

If the shell itself is reinforced, no.

Absolutely, steel or titanium teeth.

Firefly hard type bucking AND nub.
Any insight would be appreciated :)

It's more expensive than the JBU full steel tooth piston, and it wouldn't work anyway, that gearset requires a half tooth piston.

No, half tooth. They make one with a poly body and one with an aluminum, either will work.

I can find a JBU pc full tooth piston and aluminum half tooth pistons but no JBU pc half tooth pistons :(

Also, I have scoured teh interwebz for a firefly hop up nub and have found nothing.  Although several forums indicate that a nub is not included with the bucking

The nub must be purchased separately, which is why I put "and" in all caps.

Not sure what interwebz you were looking in, but that took all of three minutes to find...
Don't get me wrong, I'm here to help, but you can't expect me to do all the work for you ;).

If you haven't checked it out, go to the KWA forums under Downgrades and Mods.  You'll find all kinds of great info on the KWA sr12.

I'm a member of the kwa forums...do some research on that site... as i stated before talk with Allard he works FOR kwa USA and is an admin. on the board  ...There are two different version's of kwa's, the Law enforcement and the civilian version...both have the same internals except the Le's have the m150 and the civilian ones have a m120...  And also i would stick with the kwa stock bucking over the firefly hard type bucking even though the stock one would wear down a little faster because kwa's 2gx hop chamber is so tight you would end up with compression issue's as the firefly is thicker than the 2gx bucking and wants to bunch up under these circumstance's . Only speaking from experience that i've had with those two bucking's

Any other ?'s                                                                                                          SMOKE

It's possible that he has a good bucking, but the recent production runs of KWAs have had major issues with their hopup buckings. Gambler has had 3 in a row with essentially non-functioning buckings, and Airsoft Carolina has had issues with their stock aswell.

If the bucking is okay, though, there probably wouldn't be a huge advantage in upgrading it.

I hate to hear that about Gambler's kwa's..  Between my 2 brothers and myself we have 4 kwa's all of which had excellent buckings and were ordered from airsoft atlanta.. I wonder what kind of aftermarket flashider gambler installed?  I have heard some talk about certain flashider's crushing the entire hop-up unit's on the kwa's.. It may not be the cause those ...  I know from personal expierence though that the firefly hard type bucking will probally have fitment issue's though .. The normal  firefly bucking would probally be thin enough to work though if you changed it from the 2gx

I have never had a problem installing or running Fireflys in KWA hopup chambers, older and newer.

So, you're saying that they drop an M150 in as is? With stnd ratio gears, std torque motor, no MOSFET, same wiring, polycarb piston, and polycrab cylinder head? If so, they are doomed to failure right out of the box.

What on earth are you talking about? Hopup chambers and their contents are not even remotely close to flash hiders and can not be harmed by them in any imaginable way. So...  Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
