JG G3. No power.

I have a problem..Again...

Saturday, I was using my JG G3 over at my friends house for some 1v1. While I was navigating through the thick vegetation and wading through many streams, it was working fine. After that game, we just had some games around his house. while I was shooting semi-auto, it just suddenly stopped shooting.

It is as if there is no power going into the gun. There.is no reaction at all. Not even the slightest sound. I used multiple batteries to make sure that my battery wasn't the issue. I then checked the fuse and even that looked fine.

Now, it wasn't exactly raining that day but as I was going through the vegetation and streams, a few drops of water did get onto the gun. It wasn't along of water but I am wandering if that had anything to do with it.

If you have any ideas, post them. Unfortunately, I don't have the spare money to have this looked at by a tech and I my opinion it wouldn't be worth it since this gun is old and I only use it when my primary is being worked on. I was going to turn it into an hk21 but I decided that i will put that project off 'til I buy a better G3 with a stronger body.

So, the situation is either fix it or put it away in my closet 'til I find the spare cash to fix it.

Pop off your grip plate and see if the motor wires became disconnected.  If there's absolutely NO sound at all, it's probably a gap somewhere in your electrical circuit.  If that's not it, stop and let a tech look at it when you've got the money.  If there is damage somewhere, trying to complete the circuit (pulling the trigger) can actually cause more harm.

I looked at the wires and they are still connected to the motor. I guess I will put it away until I have the spare money to have it fixed.

Bring it to me and I'll take a look inside.

It's either a locked up gearbox (a weak battery and stock motor could lock up, and you wouldn't hear much if anything when you pull the trigger) or a break in the circuit as mentioned above. Either one is a fairly easy fix.

^The prior would result in a faint sound of the motor attempting to cycle, since there is no sound, at some point power is simply not reaching the motor.

Normally I would say that there are several things this could be, because there are. However, in this particular case I can reference two or three of the exact same gun that I have worked on where the metal piece that juts out from (and is part of) the left half of the gearbox shell which prevents the contact slide from going too far back had broken off completely. It is difficult to notice, but if you take it apart and reassemble it the gearbox will cycle one time and stop again. There are two fixes to this: Find the broken off piece of metal and glue it back (cons being the glue may get in the way of other things and it may break again, so it has to be done right); OR you can buy a new GB shell (cons being it is not as cheap and is very time consuming to replace everything). It may seem like a long shot, but I'll bet you $5 it is this rare flaw.

I figured that I will just put it up for a while and decide what to do with it then. I only use it because my m28 needs a new triggerbox. If I do end up with spare money, I'm going to buy an mp5k or a new G3 with a metal body.

Airsoft Extreme has some Classic Army G3's, but please read reviews first.

Another fix would be to remove your selector assembly altogether.  The gun wouldn't have all of it's functions, but would still work.  This is ill advised for a few reasons however:

1-As soon as the battery is plugged in, you have no safety other than the physical safety.  The only point not engaged is the trigger.  Normally when you put the gun on safe the selector plate moves off of the two teeth on the left of the GB, so even IF the trigger is somehow pulled, it won't fire.  Some China guns don't have this extra safety, and some do.  It's hit or miss.

2-You'll lose full auto.  The selector plate, when put in full auto, moves the cutoff latch out of the sector gear's path, allowing the gear to spin more than once as long as the trigger is held.  If the selector plate is gone, it obviously won't be able to move the cutoff latch (anchored by a small spring to the outside of the GB's left side), which will, in turn, stop the sector gear at the end of each turn.

All of the above assumes that Dom's diagnosis is correct.  Also I should mention if your selector plate does have that double safety (your comments make it sound like it does) you'll need to bypass the two teeth on the outside of the GB.  This is as easy as taking the trigger unit apart, bridging the two teeth within the housing (anything will do, when I did it to a broken 552 I snapped one of the teeth off and used it) and then reassembling.  Easy.  ;)

Well, I have a spare gearbox shell that Stuckmojo gave me a while back. I guess I will go with Dom's solution because if I did take the selector assembly out, I would only have semi; my gun's semi usually misfeeds and it doesn't go very far when compared to when it is on full auto.

Thanks for your help guys.

Gabe, the part that I am talking about missing means that the trigger can not push the contact slide forward, and thus there is no way to fire the gun as is unless you permanently affix the contacts, and then it would continually fire whenever the battery is plugged in. I wish there was a name for it so it would be easier to explain, but you know that little point of metal between the sector and contacts? That is what I meant.

Ok, so I switched out the gearbox shell and put everything back. When I went to fire the gun, it made a short whine for about 1 second before it cut off and continued with the original problem; no power and no noise.

Have you shimmed it at all?

Probably blew the fuse from drawing too much power caused by undue stress from something. After you answer question numero uno above, then check the motor mounting.

Nope. I have yet to put anything into this gun because I only use it if my primary is down.
