Bad Gearbox?

Post by TeamBadCompany » Thu Mar 24, 2011 5:22 pm

I have a dboys m4 and i got it for christmas. now my gearbox is freezing up and i took the gun apart and the battery and motor were very hot and i hadnt even shot a full mag. if anyone has had this problem before or knows what to do i would appreciate it. i might have to replace the gearbox or motor, any suggestions on a motor for this gun?

It sounds like your shimming may be too tight or your motor too high. I doubt you need anything besides a little checking up on the gears.

I live in lexington, but will be back in clemson until april. See if you can't find someone else in charleston that can do it for you, or give you a better idea. I think we have a few members down there.

Well, I'm not quite sure what you mean facebook page...

But, this is a good video of how to disassemble your gearbox, and generally see what the inside looks like in comparison. You should be able to tell if anything in your gearbox is broken by comparing it to the gearbox in the video.

You can also find an M4 disassembly video on the website if you need help with that.

hmmm, that plastic shouldn't be in the way, it looks like it was put there on purpose... Do you know if your gun is new or used?

That plastic piece looks like something called a sector clip. It basically pulls your tappet plate back longer so that bbs can feed a little better. It shouldn't hurt anything with it being on there, if you don't like it though, you may try taking it off and seeing if anything changes.

Though they are poorly shimmed, it is usually loose not tight, so my money is on your motor being mounted too high; thi is a very easy fix and there should be many videos on it. I can not see the pics though.

Go ahead an upgrade them while you're at it. Remember, when installing bushings everything has to be reshimmed of course. Watch and read some quality tutorials.
