Variable FPS

Post by theboss62 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 12:36 pm

So my ICS L86 has a really cool gearbox design with a quick change spring AND a spring guide that allows for three different FPS. It chronoed really low at TDC. I have the spring guide pushed all the way which is supposed to be like 400 FPS and it chrono'ed at 294 FPS... I think the chrono was wrong because my CQB gun chrono'ed at 494 FPS and took a couple shots to make it chrono right. So first question did it chrono low probably due to to the chrono? Second on the last setting of the spring guide it is supposed to be 300, the middle it is supposed to be 350, and the closest in the gearbox is supposed to be 400. If I wanted the first(lowest) to be about 330 FPS would I get a spring that shoots like ~430...

Sorry I know it is confusing but it might take a couple times of reading it to make sense

Nah, your good, well explained. And you are right, you'll probably be wanting an M130 to get your gun to shoot 430fps with the spring guide all the way in. As for chronoing low, yes, the chronoing that went on at TDC was done very badly. I know what the fps is on all my guns, and all but one chronoed 50-100fps too low, and one chronoed about 50fps too high. Whatever was going on at the chronos was not very good.

This is really starting to piss me off. The chrono at the game was run fine (we had 3 or 4 reps swapping out all morning getting it done). The chrono certainly may have been reading low, but there is no good solution to that kind of problem aside from running with the numbers you have. I personally chrono'd my own guns multiple times during the morning and had them read within 10FPS of where I thought they should be. Stop complaining and consider the amount of effort that goes in to chrono'ing 1000 guns in a downpour.

On a different note, I would also recommend a M130.

I never complained about how it was run. I just heard about everyone who chrono'd said it was nothing close to what there gun was. SO I was jw if it was correct or what. Aight I will go with a M130. I really want to be able to jump from CQB to field. I won't use it at 430 just the second and first settings

Of the guns I had chronoed, a few did chrono correctly. I think the issues was the chronoes used where the tube chronos where you have to shoot straight through them, and this didn't always happen. Honestly, how your gun is chronoed shouldn't mean much to someone who knows what their gun chronos at already. If an honorable player knew that their gun had a 20ft MED, but they were given a 0ft MED, they would still follow a 20ft MED.

But, OT, I think it's cool to have a gun that can switch between a 50ft, 20ft, and 0ft MED depending on how you feel like playing during the day.

I wasn't saying you were pissing me off, I was saying the general vibe that the chrono's were being poorly run was pissing me off.

The problem was that due to technical difficulties out of anyones control, a chrono had to be used that was not very accurate. The "satellite" type chrono we usually use is very accurate, but those chronos where you shoot through a hole are usually very inconsistent. The problem was that that was the only one working, nothing better could be done due to the circumstances at the time.

I had the same issues. I had a gun with a m130 tuned to 395fps crono to a 0ft MED. I know my MEDs for all my guns anyway though.

Is there any way to put in a form of the honor system or something, for people who play every weekend?

Steevols and Dom, I don't mean to attack the jobs that you guys did with the crono. But please don't deny that it was a major issue that flat out cannot happen again, especially at a game of that size.

We're not denying there's a problem, we're pissed that people (like you) are not saying...

The chrono's were inaccurate, therefore there was a problem.

But are instead saying...

The guys running the chrono did a crappy job, therefore there was a problem.

Hold your horses there cowboy, that was not my game and I had nothing to do with running any aspect of it. I am merely pointing out that all of your complaints have nothing to do with the people but the equipment, and that was due to technical issues that was out of anyone's control. We normally use a better chrono, and I am trying to get a hold of another one ASAP.

my apologies dom and steevo :)

you're probably better people than myself anyway, as I didn't try and help with the crono-ing at all.
