After I replaced my non-functioning stock gearbox with a mp5 gearbox I noticed that my range is only around 50 feet. I wasn't expecting it to work fully since its not exactly the same size/shape as the original gearbox. Now, I think it could be the hop up because I took a look at it and noticed that the nub as a bit deep into the bucking (if that makes sense). I also believe it to be the cylinder or the air nozzle. The original cylinder had a square whole and was more towards the rear of the cylinder. The current one has more of an oval and sits foward a bit more. Since I took the piston from the g3, is it possible that the piston doesn't quite match with the side whole in the cylinder? And my last thought was the air nozzle. After some semi-auto, I took a look at its position and saw that it doesn't quite reach the bucking by maybe 1 or 2 mm. Any thoughts on what the exact problem is?

Why didn't you put the cylinder and air nozzle assembly from the G3 in the MP5 GB? The pistons are (more or less) the same, but the air nozzles and cylinders are not. This is likely a combo of barrel suck (if it is a long G3) and the fact that the air nozzle is not sealing with the bucking. Both major problems for your range and usability.

yes g3 and mp5 air nozzle are different length. cylinders shouldn't matter between the two. Check if the air nozzle press against the bucking when looking up the into the hop-up unit, or it'll be easier if the unit is out. If it's long-it can be cut down. I would use a sharp razor of some sort. if its short-bushing can be glued or if you prefer to buy a new nozzle.

...except that MP5s have a #3 or even a #4 ported cylinder in some of them and if he put this in a full length G3 it would not have enough volume for the barrel length, which would cause exactly the issue he is talking about.adjunog wrote:cylinders shouldn't matter between the two.

ok. so it's a ported mp4 into a G3. my mistake. Yeah you need at least a tip ported cylinder.

I moved everything from the G3 gearbox into the mp5 gearbox, except for the wiring.etc.
Hopefully tomorrow I can see if everything is working properly.
