Striped piston

Hey, I've been having a lot of toruble with my pistons in my guns, the teeth on them keep striping and there a pain to replace. Does anyone know what causes them to strip or how I can prevent it?

It depends a lot on the set up, but 90% of the time, pistons strip because of bad AoE. This is the angle that the sector gear grabs the piston. Usually it is very bad and could do anything from rip off the back of the piston to wearing it down so that the gears can't pick up the piston.

Sometimes with weak springs and high rates of fire, you get something called pre engagement. This is when the the gun is shot, but the piston hasn't traveled forward far enough before the gears pick it up again.

How your piston is stripping can tell us a lot about what problem your gun is having.

The threads? As in the threads that hold your piston head on? I'm confused by this sentence, what have you upgraded/switched around?

What pistons have you been using to replace your broken piston?

Assuming he means teeth...

So, you see equal wear across all of the teeth, you don't see significantly more wear toward the back of the piston?

What kind of upgrades do you have and what battery are you running: are you sure the piston can handle what you're doing?

Ops I mention teeth, I just have switch around if stock Parts and I have 8.4v.... Today I was shooting my gun of full auto and it lost about 1 yard per shot till finally it only shot about a foot.... Should I buy a piston with full medal teeth?

Hmmm, you have a strange problem indeed. It sounds like your piston teeth are being eaten one by one until there is nothing left. Are there any teeth broken off of your gears?

Also, I'm just curious, but what gun is it?

Metal teeth pistons aren't usually a good idea. In your case, it would just be masking the problem, and instead of your piston teeth messing up, your gears would start to fail.

You wouldn't happen to have one of your old pistons would you? Is it possible you could take a picture of it and post it here?

Well I was talking about pistons in general and why the teeth strip, but this perticuler gun is a jg m4 that I've had for about 3 years I can't remember what upgrades I've done to it because I've done so many, but I think the piston is from a jg g36...

Well the pistons should be the same in both guns, and I know the piston isn't your problem, JG pistons are great.

Next time you open that gun, check the AoE of the gun, as I think that is your problem. Here is a little guide on AoE
