M16 auto broblem

Post by cripto » Sun Jun 26, 2011 6:18 pm

Hey I have a problem with my G&G m16. I took the gearbox apart because it was locked up. When I reassembled it I shot it on semi and it worked fine, but when I switched to auto it would fire off a few rounds then lock up. switching back to semi didn't unlock it. I did this a couple of times, taking apart the GB, and the same thing happens each time. Any suggestions?

You didn't change anything along the way did you?

Nope, a simple opening and closing job.

The bad news is that there are several little things that could be the issue and they aren't exactly conducive to a typed troubleshoot. The good news is that the fix will almost certainly not require parts. You should pay a tech to fix it (like me ;D ), or you can come to my house and work on it with me looking over your shoulder and telling you what to try and pointing out anything I see that is wrong. Basically me fixing it for you, but with you being the one actually touching the gun and thus learning in the process. I do not charge for this.

Hmmm I would do that, but columbia is an hour and a halfs drive away from me...if only you lived in Florence! Could you tell me what the most likely problem is? Everything looks fine in the GB...

Well, the first things to do would be to try it with another battery and make sure the motor is mounted properly. What battery did you use, what spring is in it (along with any upgrades added), and what battery will you use for the alternate test?

Its got an m120 spring in it other than that its a stock G&G gearbox. I used a tenergy 9.6 2000mah battery and a tenergy 9.6 1600mah and both did the same thing. I adjusted the motor and nothing happened.

So to clarify, after you put in the M120 it ran fine for a while until it locked up and you opened it and closed it back up, which is when the problem started? It will still fire in semi, but only a few rnds in auto? Will it fire a few dozen rnds in rapid succession in semi auto?

An aside: How do you mean it locked up? Locked up as in the piston was nearly fully cycled but the battery couldn't complete the cycle from that as a resting position? In the future rather than opening it up when that happens, manually pull the AR latch down until it is fully decompressed. You can do so without removing anything but the heat sink and motor.

i put an m120 in the gun almost a year ago and have opened it serveral times with no problems. it will fire a few in auto, but it sounds like its straining to fire them off. Skywalker: my bro wants deans on his gun and batteries, I'm still waiting for funds to get some lipos, then I will be in need of your services.

Whoops, sorry, misread. yes, I fired at least 10 shots in semi before switching to auto.
Skywalker: I will be at work from 5 till late, what time will you be around? If you had a 7.4 lipo to test with that would be helpful. Thanks for the offer!

Try firing a couple dozen rounds in semi as fast as you can, then fire in full auto a few dozen rounds in succession. Compare the two.
