Oddball wiring problem

Post by VoidSuicide » Mon Aug 01, 2011 5:03 pm

Alright, so I have one of steevo's active braking mosfets on my m16. I've finally gotten don with the wiring to have this oddball problem. Somehow I have bypassed the trigger it seems. I hook everything up and as soon as I switch it out of safety the motor starts spinning full throttle, no trigger pulling involved.

I have also put a non braking one in my brother's m14, and even tho I don't have it fully together, I don't have this problem on that. And I wired that pretty much the same as I did for the m16.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's possible that you fried the MOSFET, though in that case it would probably be firing instantly regardless of where the selector was. Do you have any exposed wires anywhere? Does the selector plate travel freely? Is the trigger slide jammed forward?

His M16 is a KWA, which uses the old system of safety, and has one of those triggers where the system is physically disconnected when the gun is turned to safety. Once turned from safety, the electrical circuit is moved into place so that the trigger can function normally. Most likely, the mosfet is fried.

So I guess I got one of those ones that just was born a failure... and here I thought it would be ready for my next game.

^ Doubtful, I test them all before they go out.

I think it is a lot more likely that you forgot to attach the return spring on the contact slide before you closed it up, it's an easy mistake to make. Check that first.

So, I've just popped the gearbox back open, and everything seems to be hooked up right, so the problem is probably the unit itself.

I can't remember... is this one from the batch where I was using spade connectors on each side of the MOSFET, or just solid wire all the way through?

Don't know, but you were still using the wet noodle wire.

Well are there motor-style connectors 1" or so away from the MOSFET?

So, now my problem has reversed from everything working without me touching the trigger, to nothing happening when I pull the trigger.

Alright, so when i run it direct (power/power, neg/neg, no third wire) it turns the motor on, but using the mosfet unit with all three wires gets no response.

So sadly, it would appear that I am going to be re-wiring both my guns for no mosfet...?

I've got those parts ordered, we can give it another shot. That having been said, try to be absolutely certain there are no shorts in the gearbox.
