Quieting a motor?

Post by cripto » Mon Sep 19, 2011 3:04 pm

My motor is pulling a m150 spring on a 1800mah 7.4 lipo battery and it is quite noisy. is there anyway i can get the motor to be quieter?

Buy a new motor, pad the caging/area around the motor. Quiet the gearbox and others might help too

Shim the gears, I'm willing to bet that 90% of the noise you hear is coming from the gears than from the motor. But felix is right, if everything else checks out, it could be your motor is just noisy. What motor is it?

It's a stock SRC motor. It's got very powerful magnets. The sound I hear is more of a whine than anything. Also, the motor heats up a little after firing the gun for a little.

Something I noticed has been missed so far that can cause whining/screaming would be for the motor height to be adjusted improperly.

Yeah, I tried to adjust it, but I guess its kinda stuck, because no matter how much I lower it, it doesn't change the pitch.

In that case, it's probably stuck from the friction caused by the wires in the grip.

Try wiggling it a bit, You'll probably need to get some pliers to grip the plastic endbell to pull it out.

Yes, yes they can. any idea on why the motor would be heating up? Is this a bad thing or is it normal?

As far as I know, a little warming is normal when it's getting a lot of use. About the only thing i can think of that might help keep the temp down some would be a mosfet, which lowers the strain on the gun's electrical system.

A hot motor could just be because it is pulling an M150 and is under immense stress.
