Removing an M4 front Iron sight

How would I go about removing a plain jane M4's front sight? I'm concerned that I wouldn't have anything to hold the front together if I remove it and I want to be able to reattach it if I ever sell it. Any help would be appreciated.

Indeed, the evil triangle piece. I have a pic in a different thread. I'll link you.

It might be one of the ones that is stuck to the barrel, in which case, you can dremel/cut it down, or get a new outer barrel.

Nothing is ever stuck on the barrel 100%. The only things that can't be undone are welds, and its certainly not welded there.

There is probably a press fit pin that goes through the sight and a notch in the barrel to hold it in place. A hammer and a specific sized allen wrench will probably break it loose. Not sure if the front end handguard relies on the front sight for an attachment point or something though.

Basically, you can get it off in one piece.. the question is, can you re-assemble the gun without it? I don't know for sure.

Thanks guys. It is a pin and notch holding it on but would a riser mount work as well? I'm simply trying to be able to use my optics on there instead of the flip up irons that are on it now.

Riser would work, if that puts the scope/sight at an acceptable height for you compared to the cheek rest height.

hmmm I even have a tri rail riser around somewhere that I'm not using...

over 9000?

I guess I should try and track down how much the thing really costs and go from there... Hang tight, homeskillet

Well, I can't find my one exactly, but looks like 15 bucks should do it...? Its a high scope riser, I'll post a pic later if you're interested.

One day, we could probably take this to PMs...

Definitely interested and 15 sounds good. Pm inbound maybe if I feel like it.

I didn't really read a lot of what's going on here... but you can take the front sight off and still have the rail system attached and whatnot. There are a few pins and a grub screw to pull it off.
