Bolt Action Build Off! Dec. 14th SQA

Come one, come all!
I'm "Sponsoring" a bolt action build off. By sponsoring I just mean I'll throw 50 bucks at the winner
It'd be cool if anyone else wants to do something similar, just to add more appeal.
Rules for gun build:
Gun must be "new" ... No entering guns that are already fully tuned.
Bolt action sniper rifles only, spring or gas powered.
Must be field legal (560fps w/.25g bb)
It should be noted that YOU are doing the work on your own rifle.
There is no price limit
There is no deadline at this time; those interested are likely to all know each other, and will keep in touch to make sure nobody is ignoring their build. There will be a deadline eventually.
Guns will be rated based on the following:
FPS (highest average over 5 shots)
Consistency (+- how many FPS from highest reading to lowest reading)
Range (how far does your BB go)
Accuracy (best grouping at 275 feet)
Noise (how loud is the gun when it fires)
Camouflage -- Bonus (paint and even ghillie wrap, not required to enter)
Lets see what we can hit!

There is no price limit
welp, there goes the competition aspect. the price cap keeps more than just.... you in the competition.
lets make it hard, and keep you from going to your usual go-to parts for a build.
what can you build for $200? $300? that way more hands on work is done not just buying parts and installing.
IMO $200 and a lot of elbow grease can outperform $700 in bolt-on parts. as a car guy do you feel the same? its like "buy a cold air and exhaust" vs reprogram ECU and valve timing and possibly take the head off and change cam alignment, or machine them to change the profile....

A $200 budget is incredibly constricting, considering most guns cost $100-$150. If you want to have a stock rifle build off, then you can, but I won't be participating.
$300 is more resonable, because you have enough to spend on some upgrades if you need them. If you have a $200 budget, and pick up a gun with a bad hop up unit, there's nothing you can do but buy a new hop up unit, and they aren't really that cheap.
As for no limit, that gives you the breathing room you need. There's not a goal to reach, simply use what you need. What you are thinking of is more of a challenge, not a build off. Challenges more have the spirit of a test of skill, pure skill. Low budgets, lots of tuning. Build offs usually focus on max performance, or fitting the user just right, without being really limited. It allows the builder full control over what he wants to do with his rifle.

Sooo if I were to be building a VSR, I could buy a boneyard VSR clone for $50 since I would be replacing everything anyway?

I don't see a good reason why you couldn't.

So if the 200 can outperform 700... then do it!
I would say, at a minimum, for a gun to be competitive , we're talking a zero trigger... upgraded cylinder and piston, and barrel. Those 3 upgrades alone soar any bolt action price way over 300

I don't think a new trigger, cylinder, or piston is necessary. The metal gearboxes on some clones are strong enough for the springs. The trigger just being a little more difficult to pull doesn't really effect anything if you are used to it.
So, with a few SHS sears, you can get away with a trigger strong enough for the spring. All that leaves is the piston, perhaps the cylinder. Pistons are expensive unless you find them used, cylinders are pricy too. But, at least they aren't $200 triggers.

I was under the impression that the 200 is not including the price you bought the rifle.

thats the point, but i like the $300 number better
buuuuut there are plenty of boneyard bolties and since youd be swapping everything out anyway it would be dumb to buy a new gun for this.
just saying

it also knocks budget airsofters out. i can afford to throw a few grants at my svd, but i obv cannot complete with some aps2 with $500 in parts before you even get to the barrel, and i feel a lot of people will be in the same boat.

You don't 100% need one as Kory explained... But I mean... they're very useful for guns that are way up in the FPS like this.
No price limit doesn't prevent normal airsofters from entering and trying... your average competition is probably working with about the same wallet that you are. Sometimes less.
Don't be intimidated by me, or Star, ... A 300 dollar gun with the right amount of work can easily outdo a much more expensive one.

If it makes you guys feel better, I'm only spending $165 in the upgrades for my entry. In total, it should stay well below $500.

not to be an ass Capn, but This is not an build off for the budget minded.
Also that car analogy was so bad... you can get an CAI for less than $200 but exhaust? Hahaha forget about it. maybe if you mean to just make it louder then yes you can take it and get the mufflers and cat's cut out. But neither of those options add any noticeable increase in power. Now if you were talking about full exhaust (headers, midpipe, catback all QUALITY part) then yes you do get an increase in power. However this is only noticable at the higher HP levels (above 400 RWHP). plus not to mention that you cannot even get quality headers (the part that adds the most HP/TQ) for less than $200. Then not to mention that those CAI and exhaust would not even come close to the power a proper dynotune (which is what I guess you meant by reprogram ECU) can make. You literally disproved your own argument with that analogy... There is a saying in the car world "It takes cash to go fast" that same saying applies to airsoft with a little tweaking.
But luke if you take that more expensive one and put the same amout of work into it that the $300 one has it will be that much better.
Also Kory thats because you will have around $500 worth of your hop mods done to it so that brings you closer to $1000
But if you are going with a XER hop with a TDC mod and an LRB that brings your value even higher
