Well I have done some playing around with the removal of the airbreak on this piston and replacement of a grub screw, but obviously with the removal of the airbreak the noise of the piston head hitting the cylinder head is greater. (i have the laylax damper cylinder head, So I was just curious as if does anyone have knowledge of this piston and airbreak as to how much the fps is affected with the airbreak installed compared to the grub screw? and is the added FPS worth the extra sound? If it helps I am am running a sp170 spring also from laylax.

With my piston and Laylax head, I lost 40fps with .4s with the air break. From 420fps with .4s to 380fps with .4s. I could not discern a noticeable difference in sound, at least not one that's 40fps worth of sound.

Granted, my rifle is being build solely for this build off, so I decided to go with the minor increase in sound over the 40fps decrease in power, as we are judged on both.

Why not just bump up to an M190?

I was afraid it would put me over the field limit, and didnt want to risk it, but if it becomes a problem i could also put some spring spacers in.

As i plan on playing with this rifle as well as using it in the bolt build off, I want it to stay on the quieter side but also not suffer fps while doing so.

My point is, why not have both? You are choosing between a predicted ~40 FPS loss, and a noticeable difference in your sound signature, but you can have both if you bump up from the M170 and leave the airbreak.

Right that was my thought too, but my concern is if the 190 will put me over the limit even with the airbreak on

I doubt it, but if it did, you could always shave a coil or two.
