short stroking help
I'm learning to tech and know how to do most of the tings I need to know except short stroking. I know why you do it, but I was wondering when I will know to do it and also how much I should remove from the sector for different builds. is there a chart or guide or do I just have to go and remove if pre engage occurs when I test fire? thanks

Re: short stroking help
Typically done on a high end high rof build where you must use a high power spring to prevent pre-engagement of the piston. However, you want the gun to shoot a lower fps than the higher power spring.. Thus short stroke. It's sometimes also done to increase rof, or to match volume of cylinder to barrel.

Yes, I know why you do it, but how do I know when I need to do it and how many to remove?

Re: short stroking help
You can short stroke as many as you want. I think the most common is 3 teeth. Are you getting pre-engagement on your piston? --- If you were, your piston probably wouldn't be lasting very long.

I'm going to pick up a she's blue, I just wanted to know for future tech work so I don't destroy pistons.

Re: short stroking help
It would be on a system using very high speed gears, like 10:1s, running a torquey motor and a large lipo, but only looking for like 300fps

Ok, I think I've figured the basics out worst case I ruin a 15 dollar piston.

Re: short stroking help
30rps with an M100
35rps with an M110
40rps with an M120
45rps with an M130
etc.
This is the rough scale I go with as for max rps on a given spring assuming that everything is running as efficiently as possible. IMO, if you have a goal close to one of these limits, just short stroke a tooth or two anyway to be on the safe side.

Re: short stroking help
Also, for short stroking, you only need to remove teeth from your sector gear, not the piston.

Re: short stroking help
Awesome, that's what I wanted and I figured I'd always remove 1 or 2. Thanks

Re: short stroking help
When to do it and how many teeth to do it to are both heavily dependent on why you are doing it, and other specifics of that build. If you are not sure, feel free to post a thread with all the specs and get some opinions from people experienced with it.
