Broken M14 Motor Connector! To Upgrade or to Warranty?

Post by CDbrooks » Thu Oct 09, 2014 8:45 am

Hey guys, got a new CYMA M14 2 days ago. I would like to upgrade it to this DMR Guide, but only problem is I broke my motor connector the second day owning it, but luckily have limited warranty.

1) First-off, should I even try upgrading the gun to the above Guide, is it worth it?

2) Should I upgrade the motor, for faster trigger response?

3) Instead of buying new motor, should I get a new gun (the same m14), and send back the old with the warranty?

Thanks guys for any suggestions, advice, opinions, or help you have to provide!

*edit Follow up questions: If I send back for warranty, do you think I will get my new one in time for AOSC Game for October 25th?

If I decided to upgrade the motor, where should I buy the parts from (also where to buy future upgrade parts)?

Did you open the gun? I'm thinking yes if you know the motor cage is broken. This almost always voids the warranty.

As for finding a new motor cage, I'm not sure where you would do that. I've seen full gearboxes for sale, but not cages.

I would get a new motor, the stock probably isn't good enough for what you will need. That guide is pretty good, even if it is a little old and outdated in some parts.

Alright thanks for the advice, and yes I opened it. Also, yeah I saw several gearbox sets for sale, and found motors for sale on Evike.com, and I know they are all "short type motors" which is what the Version 7 gearbox runs, and what the M14 runs. But I know that compared to other gearboxes the version 7 has the motor soldered to the connectors, and I do not know which motors are compatible for soldering :\ If anyone knows, please let me know!

I don't see why you couldn't solder to any motor that has contacts.

Yeah I started to realize, any short type motor, for version 7 gearbox is fine. I realized the connectors are universal, the Version 7 gearbox just requires you to solder them is all. With that being said, I am choosing to upgrade the motor instead of warranty, because I may or may not have already removed my orange tip, with unexpected destruction of the tip, therefore voiding my warranty, along with the whole opening the gun up, which also voids the warranty. Now, the question is which motor to get?

I was thinking this would work fine, any suggestions tech's? Will it work fine the specs my gun has, is a decent brand/company, will it poop on me? Let me know! Thanks :)

Just as a follow up guys, since the motor contact is the only thing broken, and I don't have money for a new motor right now. I am just going to keep the stock motor, and replace the contact for it. Now the tricky part figuring out how I am going to find a contact, for an airsoft motor, but the answer is simple. A different old spare motor, that still has the metal contact in place. So I called up "Red Tactical Airsoft" (which is 5 mins from my house) and they were very kind and said they would be fine with giving me a spare motor, for $5, then said they would just get the spare contact out for me for free. :D Very nice of them. :)

Ah, the motor contact is broken, not the whole cage, that makes things much easier to fix.

Red Tactical is run by some pretty cool guys. You're lucky they are so close.

That motor is pretty good, but the gears on then can be pretty weak. I don't know what kind of motors Red Tactical has in stock, but a store called Brill Armory has good motors for pretty cheap.

I checked out Brill Armory, and that seems like an amazing place for all kinds of Airsoft part needs! Dang maybe I will need to use them if I can't find anything at Red Tactical. I was intimidated by the fact of taking off the end bell of the my motor, and replacing it but I am more at ease now that I have research it. Would you know anything I would for sure want to watch out for, that would be an easy mistake to make? Thanks :)
