Again, the point of my playing ignorant to whether or not an AEG can be limited to semi only permanently was meant to illustrate a point. That point is that, though there are numerous ways, the fact of the matter is that the default cycle of a gearbox is full auto, and anything you put in place to prevent that can be just as easily removed. Trust me, we've had this debate before, and Adrian and I both know AEGs like the back of our hands and have thought about the technical aspect. Therefore, our current rule (which has not yet had any problems with this) would not be made any more effective than it already is by adding this restriction to it, all it would do is add more hassle and expense to those that do follow the rules, while NOT preventing those that do not obey them any more than our current rules do. Players that chrono over 400 are told at the chrono and briefing that they must remain on semi, and they have. Your reasoning for this is good, but due to the technical aspect, it simply can not work like you would want it to. As far as age limits, again, there is no need to fix an issue that doesn't exist.
In short, though I obviously understand that you are merely trying to look out for the safety of players, logic does resonate with me, and I find it more reasonable not to fix a problem that doesn't exist by making a rule that doesn't fix said non-issue but does make an issue for those that don't deserve it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it
