Latest Acquisition
Re: Latest Acquisition
If you're at TT this weekend, JJ, I'd be very interested in comparing the CA to my VFC. They are very often compared to eachother, given the similar features and price.

Well... MagPul, Noveske, ARMS, AimPoint... I'm an equal oppurtunity employer.

Re: Latest Acquisition
get the ranger adaptor from echo1, then u can put any m4 stock on it, or spend the cheese and get the G&P collapsible stock. i like my full stock, but in a perfect world it would be adjustable, the para stock to me is just plain uncomfortable.

Re: Latest Acquisition
Recently, I put in orders for a Systema Drop-in mech box for my G3, a plastic hard cover (PASGT), Hatch Mechanic's gloves, a swimmer-style headset, a hydration bladder, and a radio pouch for my radios. Pictures to come... I've just felt damned lazy as far as taking them goes, haha.
First, the radios are Motorola Talkabouts, which I bought at Radio Shack a week or two ago. They cost me $80.00 and are supposed to have a 35-mile range. I have not been able to test this to its fullest extent, but they have worked consistently well on my own property, as far as the north end to the south end (one in the open, one in the woods, and that is a pretty considerable distance, as well), with clear reception on both ends. It's supposed to work up to 10 miles, according to online reviews.
The radios have access to the 22 GMRS radio channels, as well as 121 sub-channels, and the ability to turn off channels completely if I see fit to (eliminates any temptation to listen in on the enemy, haha). There is also the much-hated Vox option, a function that will make your radio vibrate if you receive calls, as well as a handy-dandy flashlight on the bottom of the radio.
The radios came with two rechargable batteries, but are capable of taking AAA batteries (three apiece) if you happen to lose charge out in the wilderness and have AAA batteries available.
They are capable of use with a headset, one pin.
Today, I got the gearbox, the gloves, and the hard cover. I have yet to install the gearbox, as I don't know what the fxxx I'm doing, I have no access to do-it-yourself videos at home, and I really don't want to explain to my boss why there's an assault rifle at my desk at work. The videos there don't have sound anyway, so I'd be screwed enough as it was, haha. I'm going to take it up with me when I go to Greenville next weekend and illicit a favor from my good buddy Wunder.
The Hatch Mechanic's Gloves ($15.99) are pretty neat, though they fit a little snug. I'm definitely glad I went with the XL instead of trying to fit my ham-fists into the L. The padding on the knuckles is not as great as the padding on my Reactor gloves, but it's certainly effective (I tried it out, point blank, and I only felt a slight sting). All-in-all, I'd like 'em a bit looser, but I'm satisfied with both the aesthetic and protective aspects of them.
The hard cover... I have a Kevlar version, but I found out (quite quickly) at DS4 that it was giving me headaches, so I broke down and bought the plastic version, which is considerably lighter. I have yet to test it, but it looks authentic enough (the cover's on it, so it's not like the appearance matters, haha), and the web suspension is a plus. Really, the only reason I got it was, it was $14.99 and I could get it with the gear box and not pay shipping for it. Otherwise, I honestly wouldn't have considered it.
I'll get some pics of the completed loadout up when I've got everything in... shouldn't take but a couple of weeks!
