Painting the SR12. :[

Post by Joshua » Sat May 08, 2010 1:30 pm

As I really hate to do this, but I'm going to paint my KWA SR12 to get it ready for the NC Sniper Compition. If people could post pictures of AR platforms used by real military or airsoft enthusiasts that have been painted, it would be much appreciated!
The color bases I'm planning on using:
Tan
Brown
Black

(Not really green, I hate OD.  )
DMR pictures would be the best.

If you really wanted to effectively camouflage it, a few rubber bands or some 550 cord will go a long way.  Just veg the gun up enough and you won't have to paint it.

If you do end up painting it, I refer you here.
If it's TLDR for you, the short version is:
1-Don't use black
2-Use stencils from plants instead of manmade stuff
3-Put a bird nest inside your sunshade

well for where u are going, green would be best, also you can get camo tape that sticks to itself...no paint, lpus the camo tips from gabe, u should be good to go!
When you definitely need it killed overnight...

Here's what I do:

1.
I decide the base color for the gun first. Usually, my choice of base color is tan or dark earth. After making the decision, I paint the entire gun tan.

2.
After painting the entire gun with the base color, I pick up big grass, leaves and such. I lay them on my gun and paint it over with darker color; usually flat dark earth or OD green. This process will give you a simple camo pattern.

3.
Lastly, I pick fine grass and lay them on the gun in a random pattern. I tend not to cover the entire gun with grass during this process. I only cover some parts. After laying the fine grass on the gun, I paint over them with a slightly bright color. During this process, I bring my spray paint closer to the gun, giving it very short bursts, in order to accenticize the fine detail that grass gives.
