Larp?
Re: Larp?
I think a post apocalyptic LARP would be pretty cool. Firearms could be allowed along with melee weapons. Of course some complicated fighting rules would have to be created to keep the melee guys from getting completely mowed over by plastic. There would be different factions and side missions, cease fire zones, npc's, all that good crap. I think Splatmaster was going to put on something like this up in NC until a setback caused it to get cancelled, or hopefully just postponed. Still though I'd like to see creative games like that in SC's future. Theres been a lack of immersive scenarios at our games. Hold this point, capture this guy, find these parts, its fun for a while but it gets repetitive.

Re: Larp?
Yeah, I think that was one of the main factors in Splat's game. They were going to have ammo caches hidden on the field that you could search for. Ammo would be a good reward for like a completed "quest" and what not.

You're so smart and computer savvy Steevo...SteevoLS wrote: It took about 2 minutes on the SCA homepage to find the South Carolina "kingdom" in the Society for Creative Anachronism. http://www.cyddlaindowns.org/
You name a game, I've been to it.
If I've banned you, then you have more than likely deserved it.
If I deleted a post it didn't need to be there or I simply didn't like it.

It is open to everyone. I'm not entirely sure of the game times, but I play on fridays and saturdays starting at 4. I know they also play on tuesdays and thrusdays, but I don't know what time they start.SteevoLS wrote: It took about 2 minutes on the SCA homepage to find the South Carolina "kingdom" in the Society for Creative Anachronism. http://www.cyddlaindowns.org/

Re: Larp?
From what I've done in LARP, I've found that the thing that makes it so good is getting into an authentic character mindset. It's not running around with your friends swinging around foam pads on a stick, it's becoming someone else, knowing how they would fight, and doing it. It's an RPG in real life, the important part is the Role Play. You don't need the melee outlook, you need the character. It doesn't need to be good, but it's necessary to make the games more fun.

Re: Larp?
See, for me it's the exact opposite. I have more fun bettering my skill with a sword than to get in the character. And here at clemson, we are all like that. We don't get in character as a true LARPer would, we just fight with different melee weapons.Nazerith wrote: From what I've done in LARP, I've found that the thing that makes it so good is getting into an authentic character mindset. Don't take me wrong; I'm not saying this discussion needs to end. I'm just saying that there are already existing groups like the SCA that are devoted to LARPing and the various aspects of it. For example. there is a combat training day every Tuesday in one of the SCA groups in South Carolina. You don't need to be in full character, but you could learn how to actually fight with a sword.

There's no kill switch on awesome!
Re: Larp?
i see you argument and your right but why not talk about it with other people who share my first love of airsoft? and i checked the sca and found several games in our era but found the descriptions quite confusing. i tried reading the description of the description but that to did not tell me much so I'm wondering if someone can describe the description

Re: Larp?
I think everyone should keep an open mind about this, it seems like fun. Once in awhile a change is nice, something different.
That being said, im a killer and not a pretender. So the competitive fighting aspect is much more appealing than the role-playing in a dress part to me.

Yes that's exactly why i want to do it. I mean i love the role playing aspect but i really just want to get in a massive battle and bash the skull in of 50 different people while i climb to the top of their dead bodies with my battlecry to show everyone that you don't mess with this flucker!!!!
